早年及教育經歷

結婚
內莉雅·亨特在巴哈馬蘭秀結識祖·拜登，當時祖·拜登在放春假[4]。不久後，祖·拜登搬到雪城上法學院。兩人於1966年8月27日結婚[2]。婚後，祖·拜登夫婦搬到特拉華州威爾明頓，當時祖·拜登是當地特拉華州紐卡素縣的議員。兩人育有三個孩子：博·拜登、亨特·拜登和娜奧米·拜登[5]。隨後祖·拜登參加競選，爭奪特拉華州參議員J. 迦勒博格斯辭任所留下的懸空席位，外界稱內莉雅·亨特是祖·拜登競選團隊的「大腦」[2]。
車禍身亡
1972年12月18日，祖·拜登當選參議員不久後，內莉雅·亨特開車載三個孩子去買聖誕樹[6]。她開車沿郝凱森（Valley Road）往西邊行駛，在特拉華州 7 號公路十字路口使與一輛北行的半掛式卡車相撞[7][8]。隨後她和三個孩子被送到基斯頓娜護理，她和娜奧米·拜登在抵達醫院時已死亡，而兩個兒子雖受重傷，但保住性命[6][7][9]。祖·拜登宣誓就任參議員時，他的兩個兒子還躺在醫院[2]。
影響
在2015年耶魯大學畢業典禮演講中，祖·拜登提到他的亡妻：「如果不是那場致命的車禍，我可能還不知道我和孩子們的紐帶是一份禮物。我照顧兩個兒子，從中得到了救贖[10]。」
威爾明頓郊區有一個名為內莉雅·亨特·拜登紀念公園（Neilia Hunter Biden Park）的非法人公園，用來紀念內莉雅·亨特[11]。內莉雅·亨特父親多年來在卡尤加社區學院經營食堂業務，學校為了紀念她，每年為兩名畢業生頒發內莉雅·亨特·拜登獎，一個頒給新聞學學生，一個頒給英語文學學生[12]。
