Guido "The Gladiator" Vianello

Biography

At the age of 24, Guido is making his pro debut. A young heavyweight prospect, he was an amateur standout at the elite international level and represented Italy in the 2016 Olympic Games.

He recently signed a promotional contract with Top Rank and relocated to California to train with Abel Sanchez at The Summit Gym in Big Bear Lake – elevation 6,752 feet.

Guido said through an interpreter, “I started training with Abel Sanchez in September. It is very different from what I was used to before. We’re pushed to exceed our limits by going beyond the fatigue day after day, and training at high altitude in the mountains is better for my stamina. I can say definitely that the training is paying off.

“My style is technical and fast, in order to take less punches and surprise my opponents with my speed.

“My nickname is ‘The Gladiator.’ It was the idea of my managers, and I immediately liked it. I was born in Rome, the home of gladiators. I like to imagine myself fighting in an arena like them.”

AMATEUR, PERSONAL BACKGROUND: Guido said through an interpreter, “I was born and raised in Rome, and I have a brother, Giacomo, who is 28, and a sister, Elena, who is 34. My parents own a Sports Center in Rome, and my father and uncle are international tennis coaches. My brother and sister were both professional tennis players, and I played tennis for 10 years.

“I started boxing when I was 16. One day I was going to play tennis in my parent’s tennis club and I passed in front a boxing gym. I became intrigued with it – I entered the gym and I immediately fell in love with the sport.

“I had around 90 to 95 amateur fights, with a record of around 75 wins and 20 losses.

“I’m naturally right-handed.”…
