IPL 2024: 'Will Miss You Champ' - KKR Players, Fans in Sombre Mood as Phil Salt bids adieu to IPL for England Duties

By Mykhel Staff

KKR star Phil Salt would be saying one thing, 'I came in as a replacement, I saw and I conquered not just the matches, but the hearts'.

After staying unsold in the auction, Phil Salt came in for his fellow compatriot Jason Roy, and it has been a blessing in disguise for KKR. The Englishman has been in immense touch, scoring runs and doing the glove work for the Knight Riders as they sit on top of the IPL points table.

Phil Salt

KKR have already qualified for the playoffs for the first time in three years, and for the first time in 10 years as Top Two teams. Phil Salt has played a pivotal part in that, but the England international has now left the KKR camp to join England for the T20 World Cup preparations.

The 27-year-old announced his departure indirectly with a heartfelt #AmiKKR message on his social media profile, but the tone of the post was all about goodbye. The batter scored 435 runs in 12 matches for the Knights, and was formidable along with Sunil Narine up at the top of the batting order.

As Salt departs from the KKR camp, it will be a huge void for them to fill in the playoffs. Although the likes of Rahmanullah Gurbaz, KS Bharat are there for them, Salt had an undeniable effect which has been beyond expectation.

As the player left KKR, his teammate Varun Chakravarthy penned a message.

"Hey salty... Will miss u champ...all the best for the upcoming games," Chakravarthy wrote.

KKR captain Shreyas Iyer also shared Phil Salt's Instagram Story with the caption 'Champion' as the player left the team.

Fans have also reacted with love for the Englishman but they are indeed sad to see the star player leave prematurely, especially ahead of the all-important playoffs.

The diehard KKR fans have fallen in love for the Englishman and surely want to see more of him in Purple and Gold next year.

"Words are not enough to express the impact you have created in such a short time period, you will be thoroughly missed in the upcoming matches but nonetheless thank you for the amazing starts you gave throughout the tournament and hope to see you back in purple and gold next season , lots of love," a fan wrote on Salt's Instagram post.
