1- Name of NGO:

Axel Springer SE

2- Brief & Mission:

Axel Springer SE is a German global mass and online media corporation, based in Berlin, Germany. The company presents printing and publishing of advertisements, digital classifieds portfolio, transaction models and related services.

3- Bias, Agenda & Motivation:

Germany’s biggest media group Axel Springer, which controls a substantial portion of the German press, as well as dozens of venues around the world, directs its employees to support Israel’s right to exist. Springer carries an unwavering pro-Israel stance. “God bless the IDF,” Die Welt, a Springer-owned German daily, expressed in an editorial. The company’s CEO reported in Springer-owned Politico that the chants of “from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” were equivalent to calling for genocide against Jews, standing in line with the German government’s November declaration that the slogan was prohibited.

4- Links to Governments/Political Agenda:

According to Intercept, Supporting Israel against criticisms of human rights violations, however, is one speciality. Making finances off those breaches is another. Yet that’s exactly what Springer seems to be doing. Springer’s Israeli classified advertisement website Yad2 — the largest Craigslist-like classifieds site in the nation— issues real estate listings across Israel, including rental flats and sales in Israeli settlements that are deemed illegal under international law

5- Sources of Funding:

The Intercept discovered thousands of apartments for sale and rent in illegal settlements in the occupied Palestinian West Bank. Of those, more than 1,000 were spent ads from brokerage houses — indicating Yad2, and thus Axel Springer earned money on them.

6- Activities:

Moreover, THE GERMAN MEDIA giant Axel Springer, which has famously glorified support for Israel in its mission statement, terminated an employee who wandered from its staunchly pro-Israel editorial line, according to a discussion with the employee and supporting internal documents.

He was questioned about the company’s Israeli policy through internal channels and posted a video online fighting parts of the Israeli military’s description of the brutal Hamas attack on October 7. “It is one of my rights to ask questions. I desired to stay at Axel Springer,” said Raad, who was sacked just a few weeks into a three-year position at the company. “Unfortunately, I was taken in for investigation by senior management, who notified me, ‘We are Germans and we ought to do this,’” he added, explaining his manager’s explanation for the company’s Israel policy.

7- NGO Leadership:

Dr. Mathias Döpfner serves as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Axel Springer.

8- Controversy:

Publishing ads that advertise real estate deals in Israeli settlements is both supporting and benefiting from human rights violations, said Omar Shakir, the Israel and Palestine director at Human Rights Watch, which has contended that Israel’s occupation and settlement enterprise backing an apartheid system.

9- Contact Details:
