Join Theatre Aspen and the Aspen Music Festival and School for their fourth summer collaboration MASTER CLASS by Terrence McNally.
The story about the opera diva Maria Callas, a glamorous, commanding, larger-than-life, caustic, and surprisingly funny pedagogue is holding a singing master class. Alternately dismayed and impressed by the students who parade before her, she retreats into recollections about the glories of her own life and career.
The just-announced cast brings award-winning talent to the heart of Aspen in a spectacular presentation of the Tony® Award winning play. Starring two-time Tony Award-winning actress Phylicia Rashad as the legendary opera star Maria Callas, directed by Tony, Drama Desk Award winner Joanna Gleason.
Ms. Rashad will be joined by sopranos Anna Thompson and Marissa Moultrie and tenor Joseph Tancredi—three rising-star opera fellows of the AMFS’s Aspen Opera Theater and VocalARTS program in the roles of the students. They will be accompanied by pianist Rhys Burgess from AMFS’s Collaborative Piano program.
With only 2 performances available, don’t miss this spectacular event at the Wheeler Opera House on July 9 and July 10.
Tickets for this special presentation may be purchased at any time through the Aspen Music Festival and School website at aspenmusicfestival.com/events/buy-tickets. Tickets range from $65-125.
Note: AMFS passes are not valid for this co-presentation; all attendees must purchase single tickets.
