Erasmus+ scholarship amounts
Within the ERASMUS+ worldwide exchange programme, students from our ERASMUS+ partner universities can be supported for a study period at TU Dresden lasting between 2 and 6 months. ERASMUS+ funding includes a subsistence grant of 850 € per month and a travel grant lump sum according to distance band. When traveling environmentally friendly, a top-up is paid out (see further information and distance calculator below). Students with fewer opportunities can also apply for a monthly top-up of 250 €.
In addition to the monthly allowance of 850 €, students can apply for social top-ups. The social top-ups cannot be combined with each other.
Social Top-up: Students with child
If you take your child/children abroad, you are entitled to an additional lump sum of 250 € per month.
You submit the request after application and placement by uploading a Declaration on Honor and supporting documents (copy of the birth certificate of the child/children; supporting documents proving that the child/children will be taken abroad (e.g. travel documents, proof of care on site)). Information on how to apply will be emailed to you in a timely manner.
Social Top-up: Students with a disability or certified chronic disease
As a student with a certified degree of disability or with a certified chronic illness that results in additional financial needs abroad, you will receive an additional lump sum of 250 € per month.
You submit the request after application and placement by uploading a Declaration on Honor and supporting documents (proof of the disability or certificate of the chronic illness including declaration of the doctor that there is an additional financial need abroad). Information on how to apply will be emailed to you in a timely manner.
If particularly high costs are incurred during the stay abroad (e.g. for barrier-free accommodation or flight or for an accompanying person), you can alternatively submit a real cost application (long application). In this application, the costs incurred must be detailed and can then be reimbursed up to a maximum of 15.000 € per semester. The application must be submitted via the IO of the TUD at least 2 months before the start of the stay abroad.
Social Top-up: First-generation students
As a first-generation student, you can apply for a monthly top-up of 250 € if no parent/relative has a degree from a university or college.
You submit the request after application and placement by uploading a Declaration on Honor and supporting documents (declaration on honor of the parents/relatives). Information on how to apply will be emailed to you in a timely manner.
Social Top-up: Working students
As an employed student, you can apply for a monthly top-up of 250 €.
Prerequisites: The employment began at least six months before application or before the start of mobility abroad without interruption and ends at the latest with the start of the semester abroad. The activity can not be carried out during the stay abroad.
You submit the request after application and placement by uploading a Declaration on Honor and supporting documents (employer's certificate). Information on how to apply will be emailed to you in a timely manner.

Disbursement of Erasmus+ Scholarship
Please note that you will receive your Erasmus funding upon arrival in Germany in 2 installments. Consequently, you are personally responsible for arranging and booking your flights, accommodations, visa, and insurances in advance. Should these arrangements pose an insurmountable obstacle in the planning and organization of the Erasmus+ stay, please notify the International Office and your academic coordinators at your home university and TU Dresden to collectively find a solution on a case-by-case basis.
The scholarship will be transferred only on bank accounts with a European IBAN. Therefore there are two options:
- Upon arrival open a bank account at a German bank (e.g. Deutsche Bank, Volksbank Dresden-Bautzen, DKB...) or Sparkasse (e.g. Ostsächsische Sparkasse Dresden), where you will receive a German IBAN. To open an account you will need:
- Passport
- Registration confirmation from the residents’ registration office Dresden
- Letter of admission for a degree program or student ID
- [To be updated]
The first installment of the scholarship amount (70 %) will normally be paid within 3 weeks after the appointment in the International Office of TU Dresden resp. after opening a German bank account on site. It is therefore strongly recommended to each beneficiary to arrive in Dresden with at least the amount necessary for the expenses they will have to face during the first month (including accommodation).
To Dos
- Check that your identification document (passport) is valid for foreign travel (including the passport’s residual validity - 6 months rule if applicable). An overview of specific requirements for each country may be found with the Deutsches Auswärtiges Amt (German Foreign Office)
- Double check that the Incoming Team of TU Dresden () sent you an official letter of admission for the VISA
- If you would like to reserve accommodation in a student dormitory, you can apply for a room at the Studentenwerk Dresden. Please apply immediately after receiving the letter of admission.
ENROLLMENT
-
To acquire official student status at TU Dresden and avail yourself of university accident insurance and the full range of benefits offered to enrolled students at TUD, please complete the enrollment process. Therefore, please complete the steps outlined in your letter of admission including:
- Provide proof of payment of the semester contribution.
You will receive information about the payment along with your admission letter. - Request a German statutory health insurance (costs around € 80 per month), that will be on your charge. It can be purchased before the mobility in your country online. It is essential that the insurance covers the entire duration of your stay.
- Provide proof of payment of the semester contribution.
- Check your email frequently: we will send you information about your face-to-face appointment in the office for the delivery of the Welcome Kit and all the necessary documents to start your mobility.
Changes in the study programme may be made within five weeks after arrival and should be agreed upon by all parties. All changes should be indicated in Learning Agreement Tables A2 and B2, while Tables A and B should not be modified.
One month before the end of your stay, you will receive an automatically generated email (please check your spam folder) to take part in the EU Online Survey and complete a report on your stay; you have 10 days to do this.
After completing the EU survey, you will receive the 2nd installment (30%) of your Erasmus+ grant. If you fail to complete the report, you will have to repay the grant.
Within 30 days AFTER you leave TU Dresden, please upload the following documents in your Mobility Online Account:
- Confirmation of Attendance confirming the start and end date of your study period at TUD. These must match the dates stated in the Grant Agreement, otherwise the grant will be reduced by the time not covered. The confirmation is signed at the end of your stay if you send it to .
- Transcript of Records / alternatively Learning Agreement Table D, confirming the amount of credit points/workload which was accomplished, issued by your TUD faculty or examination office.
- Proof of Recognition / alternatively Learning Agreement Table E, confirming recognition of the academic achievements that were achieved during your stay at TUD.
- Certificate of Enrolment from your home university for the period of time spent at TUD.
