The 2024 edition of King and Queen of the Ring continued through this weekend's untelevised WWE Live Events which allowed multiple superstars to move into the quarterfinal rounds that begin on tonight's Raw.
On this Sunday's house show, Kofi Kingston defeated Rey Mysterio in Macon, Georgia to advance to the quarterfinal of the King of the Ring. He will now face Gunther on tonight's Monday Night Raw.
The Raw side bracket from the Queen of the Ring also proceeded as Shayna Baszler advanced by defeating Maxxine Durpi. As a result, she will now face IYO SKY, tonight in the quarterfinal.
Originally, Zelina Vega was supposed to face Baszler in the first-round match but WWE General Manager Adam Pearce announced that Vega was not medically cleared to compete and that Maxxine Dupri would replace her in the match.
"It would have been nice to see her try to regain that crown but (the) injury bug strikes again, which opens the door to opportunity for one Maxxine Dupri, who will receive the biggest opportunity of her young career as she will step in tonight against Shayna Baszler."
Vega is the first-ever Queen's Crown tournament winner from 2021 where she defeated Doudrop at Crown Jewel PLE to win. As reacted on social media, she was unhappy about not getting to defend her crown due to the sudden injury.
The quarterfinal of the King of the Ring is set with the lineups from Raw and SmackDown standing Ilja Dragunov vs. Jey Uso, Randy Orton vs. Carmelo Hayes, and LA Knight vs. Tama Tonga.
From the Queen of the Ring tourney, the quarterfinal lineups will be Lyra Valkyria vs. Zoey Stark, Nia Jax vs. Jade Cargill, and Tiffany Stratton vs. Bianca Belair. Stratton and Knight from SmackDown advanced in the house show matches that took place Saturday in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
The final matches of the King of the Ring alongside Queen of the Ring 2024 tournament are scheduled from Saudi Arabia on Saturday, May 25 at the King & Queen of the Ring premium live event at the Jeddah Superdome in Jeddah.
