The Barsapara Cricket Stadium, also known as Assam Cricket Association (ACA) Stadium, which was established in 2012 and situated in Barsapara, Guwahati, Assam, is all set to host a few matches in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
Barsapara Cricket Stadium, which is officially named as Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Cricket Stadium, has hosted 2 One Day Internationals, 4 T20 Internationals and 2 Indian Premier League matches so far.
The venue is currently home to the Indian cricket team, the Assam state team and the IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals, who host few of their home matches at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium along with their original home ground in Jaipur.
Guwahati's Barsapara Cricket Stadium is one of the 13 venues that will host the matches of IPL 2024. The venue in Guwahati will host the home matches of RR after the first five matches were held in Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
ACA stadium will play hosts to two matches in May after the SMS hosted five home matches of Rajasthan Royals in March and April. Now, we take a look at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati T20 and IPL records at the venue:
The pitches at the venue have been batting friendly, resulting in a few high-scoring games in the T20 Internationals recently with both the team batting first and second crossing the 200-run mark.
In the 2023 season, we saw one team chasing and one team defending win the two matches with both the encounters being fairly high-scoring contests. The teams chasing have had the slight advantage here due to dew setting in late in the night.
In the 2024 season, the wicket on offer in the first match seemed to be a two paced one that got easier to bat later in the innings as Punjab Kings registered their second win at the venue.
The month of May in Guwahati is expected to see cloudy days with high chances of thunderstorms especially on the two match days with max temperature of 35°C and minimum temperature of 26°C on May 15, and max temp of 32°C on May 19.
Rain prediction for Guwahati on May 15 and May 19: There is 40 percent chance of showers in the afternoon, but it's expected to clear by evening on May 15. However, there is high chance of rain playing spoilsport in the second match.
On May 9th, there is 42 percent chance for thunders storms in the afternoon, but is likely to clear before the match start time. It may still remain cloudy for the rest of the evening and night. So, rain is unlikely to completely wash out the match.
