Google Oneindia News

IPL 2024: Indian Skipper Rohit Sharma on Sunday, May 18, took to social media to criticise broadcasters and raise the sensitive issue of players' privacy. Rohit Sharma said that only for the sake of TRP and a good number of views, Star Sports breached his privacy, recorded the personal conversation, and made it public. He added that he had instructed Star Sports staff not to record him when he was talking to KKR coach Abhishek Nayar, but they did and made the private talk go viral, which is totally unacceptable and a breach to his personal space.

According to the viral video, Rohit Sharma can be heard sharing his frustration with the recent decision of the Mumbai Indians team management and the situation of team under the new captain. The conversation went viral within minutes and sparked a huge controversy. However, nobody could confirm that audio of Rohit Sharma was original or it was doctored.

Slamming Star Sports, Rohit Sharma said that the broadcaster failed to respect his privacy and "broke his trust" among the various stakeholders.

"The lives of cricketers have become so intrusive that cameras are now recording every step and conversation we are having in privacy with our friends and colleagues, at training or on match days," Rohit Sharma's tweet reads.

"Despite asking Star Sports to not record my conversation, it was and was also then played on air, which is a breach of privacy. The need to get exclusive content and focused only on views and engagement will one day break the trust between the fans, cricketers and cricket. Let better sense prevail," he added.

Since Mumbai Indians decided to give reigns of the team to Hardik Pandya replacing Rohit Sharma, a cold war between both ace cricketers was going on and now everything is public. A few social media users also claimed that Rohit Sharma may leave Mumbai Indians and is likely to some other franchise in the next IPL edition.
