IPL 2024: Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium is all set to host the much anticipated Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Chennai Super Kings (RCB vs CSK) match in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) tonight, May 18, from 7:30 pm onwards. The RCB vs CSK match is crucial for both sides as the winner will qualify for the IPL 2024 playoffs.

MS Dhoni's Chennai side is currently at the fourth position in the IPL points table with 14 points but their berth is not confirmed yet as 5th positioned RCB which has 12 points is also eyeing to cross the line. Tonight, if RCB manages to defeat the yellow army with a margin of 18 runs (if batted first), then they will replace CSK as they will equal the points and have a better Net Run Rate.

SubAir System

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru, which started their IPL 2024 run in a terrible way, made a great comeback and won 5 back to back matches that powered them to take a leapfrog to fifth place.

However, fans are worried that rain might soil the sport. According to the weather monitoring department, there are over 90% chances of precipitation in the Karnataka capital tonight, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds.

If RCB and CSK match gets abandoned tonight, then the Chennai team will be promoted to the next round and RCB's dream to lift the cup will be postponed for another edition.

But wait a minute...

Bengaluru, the high-tech city, has a plan to deal with rain. The stadium is loaded with the latest equipment including the "SubAir System", a sub-surface aeration and vacuum-powered drainage system, that can prepare the ground for play in only 15 minutes once the rain stops. Recently, after the rain threat reports started doing round the internet, the stadium authorities gave a demonstration of the SubAir system claiming that no matter how heavy rain comes, the ground will be ready within a few minutes.

The SubAir system was also used last year during the RCB vs GT game.

"Even a big puddle disappears in seconds; it works like magic," said KSCA vice president B.K. Sampath Kumar last year when the ICC delegation visited the Bengaluru stadium ahead of the start of ICC World Cup 2023 hosted by India.
