(CelebrityAccess) — Celine Dion says that she hopes to be able to return to the road after undergoing therapy following her diagnosis of stiff person syndrome.
The Grammy-winning recording artist recently sat down for an interview that was featured in the May edition of Vogue France, detailing her battle with the disease.
According to Dion, she’s been training “like an athlete” as part of her therapy to manage the impacts of the health condition.
“Five days a week I undergo athletic, physical, and vocal therapy. I work on my toes, my knees, my calves, my fingers, my singing, my voice,” Dion told Vogue France.
“I have to learn to live with it now and stop questioning myself. At the beginning I would ask myself: why me? How did this happen? What have I done? Is this my fault?” she added.
SPS is a rare, progressive neurological disorder with symptoms that can include stiff muscles in the torso, arms, and legs, as well as a sensitivity to noise, touch, and emotional distress which can induce tremors, according to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.
The Canadian music legend shared her diagnosis in 2022 and was forced to cancel a significant portion of her world tour that year.
Still, Dion indicated that she hopes to be able to return to touring.
“I have this illness for some unknown reason,” she said. “The way I see it, I have two choices. Either I train like an athlete and work super hard, or I switch off and it’s over, I stay at home, listen to my songs, stand in front of my mirror and sing to myself. I’ve chosen to work with all my body and soul, from head to toe, with a medical team. I want to be the best I can be. My goal is to see the Eiffel Tower again,” she told Vogue France.
