Whatever happened to
Funky Winkerbean? SeattlePI readers read the iconic comic here everyday until its final strip on December 31st, 2022 as comic artist Tom Batiuk retired the comic. While the comic is no longer available, Funky himself and other characters from the comic strip still live, though on a different timeline, in
Crankshaft.
Crankshaft, drawn by Tom Batiuk and Dan Davis, could be viewed as a prequel, set decades before Funky Winkerbean, because of the time skips. The spin-off strip has always had crossover characters, and as Batiuk's humor continues in Crankshaft, so do some of the characters' backstories from his original Winkerbean strip.
