Ever since that AlphaOmegaSin video, Years ago. 100% yes. Coming from a fighting games fan, Can't wait to see SC6 get shitted on by someone who's never played a fighting game before

What happened?

I serious was under the impression everyone knew this is how reviews work these days. IGN get away with it by putting a notice of paid advertising or sponsored content, but in reality that just means they have received enough money to want to cover the game and say nice things.

This is not to say every review is paid for but I would say a lot are.

Well if that's the case what are some honest review sites I can use?

Youtubers, since most aren't in a position to be fired, threatened, intimidated, blackmailed, blacklisted, and so on for going against the financial interests of the major gaming journalism sites that collude with one another (Kotaku, Polygon, IGN, etc., etc.). As for which specific ones to follow, here's a video that answers that question in as much detail as possible: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lG2dXobAXLI&t=21s TL;DR It comes down to your personal preferences. A reviewer who's great at fighting games and terrible at racing games, for example, will have biases toward those genres that may not match up with how you feel about them, and thus his review scores may always feel "off" to you. As such, you'll need to look around on your own since no one knows your preferences better than you do.

I'm sorry I can't answer that. I tend not to use review sites.

O ya, not every single one but alot of the major ones like IGN and gamespot I think are paid. I personally enjoy the completionist if I'm looking for game reviews I think some are paid but I haven't bought a game he recommended and ended up hating it after so that's your call

Yeah I never trust ign reviews they are definitely bought

Yes but they are obligated to signpost that it is an ad using #ad or ‘sponsored content’

Theres nothing to think, we know how it works. Do developers/publishers pay for review scores? No.

There has never been a case where a credible review website has been caught accepting money for a review.

However, companies work deals with game news outlets to get extensive coverage and hype for their game. They also pay for flights and accommodations to have reviewers come out and play the game early. They also send them a free early copy.

So while they havent been known to technically pay money for a certain review, they can do a lot to influence scores and reception of the game with money.

No not directly, not ever. but a game developer might choose to not buy advertising space on their website for their new AAA title if IGN chooses to be too harsh in their reviews and most of the revenue of these sites is reliant on the sale of advertising space.

But don't get this stuff confused with reviewers just taking into account the subjective tastes of others.
