Introducing TorrentBot! The easy to view torrent progress through discord!

Hey everyone!

Just wanted to share my first publicly released program known as TorrentBot.

My friends request movies and TV through discord and had no easy way of tracking download progress so I decided to create this bot which would show that information.

Here's a link to the repo: https://github.com/SavnoorSamra/TorrentBot

I am open to any feedback/advice/or other information that may help improve this project as I am looking to learn and maybe help someone out in the process.

Thanks everyone!

I'm not a fan of monitoring stuff via discord but this looks like a pragmatic solution.

In an ideal world overseer/jellyseerr would expose the progress that the *arr suite reports.

Overseer does this already. It's convenient, although the data only refreshes every minute or so; I wish it was faster or that the refresh interval was customizable.

I believe overseer only allows the admin to view download progress

Nah all users can see, just tried it with my friend to double check. Nonetheless your Discord bot is cool and adds another modality for people to check progress. I find that it's encouraging for people to have feedback loops like this so that they enjoy using Plex/jellyfin.

Oh cool, I don't use Overseer or I should say Jellyseer as I use Jellyfin but good to know.

Thanks for the kind words, more ways to accomplish the same result never hurt anybody lol.

Unless I missed something, overseer doesn't let my friends see the download progress of their requested media through discord.

Because maybe they want to know how long their content will take to download? It's not rocket science.

And get this, some downloads with less seeds might take more than a few minutes!! Shocking I know.

edit: The deleted comment if anyone's curious

No, it doesn’t, but how or why does this matter? Do your friends and family want to watch a progress bar or the actual content? Most downloads last only a few minutes anyway.

Imagine depending on seed ratio in 2024 when debrid exist or UseNet for that matter since 30 years.
