There is no established theory on the origin of the name ' Yeongdeungpo ', but the following theory is said to be influential. According to shamanism, the first day of February in the lunar calendar was called Yeongdeung-day, and the shaman performed Yeongdeung-gut for 15 days. In addition, since the name 'Yeongdeungpo' is a phoneme, there were various Chinese names such as 英登浦 and 永登浦.

For reference, this document is the first local history sub-document created among autonomous districts in Seoul during the Rigveda Wiki era , and it is also the first local history sub-document created among all autonomous districts in the special city / metropolitan city .

Although this document was written mainly for the current Yeongdeungpo-gu area, it also covers the areas that belonged to Yeongdeungpo-gu in the past.

2. Three Kingdoms Period ~ Northern and Southern Kingdoms Period

During the Three Kingdoms period, it was part of an area called 'Ingbeolno' ('Neunnae'), and during the Unified Silla period, it was part of Gokyang-hyeon. However, Yanghwa-dong was part of Jechapauihyeon, and was Gongamhyeon (孔岩縣) during the Unified Silla period , and later Bupyeong Dohobu.[6] It was merged into its predecessor, Suju-gun (樹州郡).

3. Consideration

When Gokyang -hyeon was reorganized into Geumju during the reign of King Taejo, it belonged to it. On the other hand, the former Gongam-hyeon to which Yanghwa-dong belongs was re-separated from Bupyeong as Yangcheon-hyeon during the reign of King Chungseon .

The Yeongdeungpo-gu area at the time of the late Joseon Dynasty ( 1896 )[7]

It was generally on the outskirts of Geumcheon-hyeon (current Geumcheon- gu Gaeupchi).

Geumcheon-hyeon changed its name to Geumcheon (1413), and Geumcheon-hyeon itself merged with Gwacheon-hyeon in the nearby Gwacheon-si area and Yangcheon-hyeon, which is now Gangseo -gu / Yangcheon -gu , and then split ( 1414 ). Eventually, the boundary of Geumcheon-hyeon was finalized after Sejo ( 1416 ) . After that, only the name was changed from Geumcheon-hyeon → Siheung-hyeon → Siheung-gun and maintained. It was at this time that the name Yeongdeungpo (英登浦) was first used in Geography of the Annals of King Sejong .

However, after the founding of the Joseon Dynasty, Yeouido was the capital of Hanseong. It was incorporated into Seongjeosimni . Yanghwa-dong belonged to Yangcheon-gun (Yangcheon-hyeon). This is because the Anyangcheon junction was originally located between Yeongdeungpo Water Purification Plant and Seonyudo , not between Yeomchang-dong and Yeongdeungpo Water Purification Plant. After the construction of the Anyangcheon embankment in 1935, the watershed of Anyangcheon, that is, the waterway, was changed and Yanghwa-dong was incorporated into the Yeongdeungpo area.

5. Japanese colonial era and transfer to Gyeongseong-bu

File:attachment/...
In 1914, Yeouido was incorporated into Goyang-gun, present-day Yanghwa-dong (originally part of Yangcheon-gun) was incorporated into Gimpo-gun, and the rest of the area was incorporated into Buk-myeon, Siheung-gun.[8][9]

File:attachment/...
In 1917, Yeongdeungpo-ri, Dangsan-ri, and Yangpyeong-ri of Buk-myeon were separated into Yeongdeungpo-myeon, and in 1931, it was promoted to Yeongdeungpo-eup.

File:attachment/...
In 1936, all of Yeongdeungpo-eup, some areas of Buk-myeon, and Yanghwa-ri of Gimpo-gun were incorporated into Gyeongseong-bu . As mentioned above, this is because the basin of Anyangcheon moved westward. And the remaining area of Buk-myeon was incorporated into Dong-myeon. It was the first region south of the Han River to be incorporated into Seoul. The southern boundary of Gyeongseong-bu became the criterion of Daebangcheon, which is now covered . However, since direct reinforcement was also made at the time Daebangcheon was covered, the current Daebangcheon-ro and the boundary of Gyeongseong-bu at the time do not coincide.

At that time, Japanese nobles who settled in Yeongdeungpo-eup opposed the incorporation of Gyeongseong-bu and insisted on the promotion of Yeongdeungpo-bu . At this time, Yeongdeungpo was preparing to grow into an industrial city and become a self-sufficient city, and the town level was also trying to come up with its own urban planning. When we asked for opinions from the Yeongdeungpo-eup Council ahead of the expansion of Gyeongseong-bu in 1935, the Japanese lawmakers opposed it, but the Korean lawmakers mostly agreed . accept it as Instead, give priority to facility investment, etc. It was organized in the opinion of The reason why the Japanese government-general chewed the objection of Japanese nobles like this was that it was in a situation where the Yeongdeungpo area had to be incorporated into Gyeongseong-bu as part of the 'Daegyeongseong Plan' with a slight consideration of the additional incorporation of Incheon into Gyeongseong-bu.

In fact, even in the 1920s, Yeongdeungpo's incorporation into Gyeongseong-bu was considered, but local public opinion was strong that the incorporation into Gyeongseong-bu was premature , and the plan was canceled due to the great Han River flood in 1925 . However, in the early 1930s, Yeouido, Noryangjin, and Heukseok-dong were included in the area south of the Han River in the draft expansion of Gyeongseong-bu, and then Yeongdeungpo (the entire Yeongdeungpo-eup area and parts of Buk-myeon) were suddenly included in the area subject to incorporation into Gyeongseong-bu. If Yeongdeungpo-bu was promoted instead of incorporated into Gyeongseong-bu, as the people said, the present southwestern part of Seoul and the Gwangmyeong-si area would have become a rare metropolitan-level satellite city in the suburbs of Seoul, bordering on Seoul Metropolitan City, just like Incheon Metropolitan City . In any case, Yeongdeungpo's incorporation into Gyeongseong-bu can be seen as the only case so far in which (actual) satellite cities around Seoul were merged into Seoul. The Seoul version of Gwangsan- gu ?

The remnants of the independent regional identity as Yeongdeungpo continued until the early 1980s (source: Deep-rooted tree - Seoul edition), but now it is completely assimilated into the city of Seoul.

It is one of the seven districts (Yongsan, Jung, Jongno, Seodaemun, Dongdaemun, Yeongdeungpo, and Seongdong) established in accordance with the implementation of relief in 1943, and boasts a tradition and history of nearly 70 years . A resident of the southwestern part of Seoul.

If, instead of being incorporated into Gyeongseong-bu , Yeongdeungpo-bu had been elevated to Yeongdeungpo-bu as the Japanese leaders in the Yeongdeungpo area insisted, it would have become a rare satellite city with a population of 2 to 3 million, bordering Seoul and the Han River . Cities like Incheon and Ansan are located right next to Seoul across the Han River.

After liberation, Yeongdeungpo-bu in Gyeonggi- do became 'Yeongdeungpo-si' in Gyeonggi- do and would have grown into the largest satellite city in the Seoul area south of the Han River , and Yeongdeungpo and Guro Industrial Complex[10] It may have been promoted to a direct government city based on the industrial zone of the whole area. Thanks to the foundation of the industrial zone, it would have become a city with some self-sufficient functions for a satellite city right next to Seoul. Unlike the case of Gwangmyeong-si, however , unlike Incheon, there was no distinctiveness like a coastal city , so it would have been more likely to remain as a super- large specific city under Gyeonggi-do. If Yeongdeungpo-si was promoted to a directly-controlled city, the Yeongdeungpo version of Gwangsan-gu in the form of merging Anyang-si, which was promoted to a city in 1973? The county may have been expanded. Or, instead of being promoted to Anyang-si, Anyang-eup, Siheung-gun could have been incorporated into Nam-gu, Yeongdeungpo-si... Meanwhile, the current Gangnam area may have been developed as a satellite city (bed town) of Gyeonggi-do instead of being incorporated into Seoul. The great expansion of Seoul in 1963 was also carried out at the end of a political struggle...

Current Yeongdeungpo-gu (including Daerim-dong), Dongjak-gu (including Sindaebang-dong, excluding Sadang-dong), Guro-gu Sindorim-dong/Guro-dong or more Yeongdeungpo-si Buk-gu, Geumcheon-gu, Gwanak-gu (excluding Namhyeon-dong ) Yeongdeungpo- si Dong- gu as well as present-day Gwangmyeong -si Yeongdeungpo -si Seo-gu or Anyang -si It would have expanded to the Nam-gu (or Anyang-gu) area of Yeongdeungpo-si . Resurrection of original Siheung-gun in earnest? Also, Gocheok-dong, Gaebong-dong, Oryu-dong, and Cheonwang-dong, the eastern part of Sosa-eup, Bucheon-gun, could have been incorporated into Yeongdeungpo-si due to geographical and living rights issues.[11] Yeongdeungpo City, which has grown to 2 million people, must have been as noisy as Suwon City due to the issue of promotion to a metropolitan city. Of course, if it had already been promoted to a direct-controlled city, there would not have been such a controversy.
  • Buk-gu, Yeongdeungpo-si[12] : Present-day Seoul Yeongdeungpo-gu, Guro-gu Guro-dong, Sindorim-dong, Dongjak-gu (excluding Sadang-dong)
  • Seo-gu, Yeongdeungpo[13] : Present-day Gwangmyeong City
  • Dong-gu, Yeongdeungpo[14] : Geumcheon-gu, Gwanak-gu, Seoul (excluding Namhyeon-dong)
  • Nam-gu, Yeongdeungpo[15] : Current Anyang City

However, if the expansion of Seoul was carried out in terms of the metropolitanization of the administrative districts of Seoul Metropolitan City, there would have been room for Yeongdeungpo City to be merged with Seoul Metropolitan City as a whole. However, as there is a behind-the-scenes story that the great expansion of Seoul in 1963 was carried out at the end of a political struggle, the probability of Yeongdeungpo-si being merged with Seoul seems unlikely. In particular, if the government had adhered to the satellite city development policy, as in actual history, the possibility of being merged with Seoul would be slim.

In any case, if Yeongdeungpo had been promoted as a reader, the history of Siheung-gun would have been less twisted than it is now. It would have been if Yeongdeungpo had survived as an independent metropolis representing the original Siheung, rather than being part of Seoul. In various historical books, Siheung in the Joseon Dynasty can be written as Yeongdeungpo-si today.

For reference, the exact opposite of the case of Yeongdeungpo-gu is Gwangmyeong-si , but they are from the same original Siheung-gun and have a similar living area in common. In the case of Gwangmyeong, adjacent large cities This is a case where the incorporation was scheduled, but was forcibly promoted to the city against the wishes of the residents in the name of fostering a satellite city.

5.2. Report: If Yeongdeungpo was promoted, what would be the fate of Siheung-gun?

In 1949, the entire area of present-day Yeongdeungpo-gu was incorporated into Seoul.[16] This was done in order to organize the remaining areas (now Daerim-dong, Sindorim-dong, Guro-dong, and Sindaebang-dong) of the old Buk-myeon area of Siheung-gun (which was transferred to Dong-myeon, Siheung-gun in 1936) that were not incorporated into Gyeongseong-bu in 1936.

In 1960, the then Yeongdeungpo-gu area was incorporated into the Seoul Metropolitan Area.

1963 Yangseo-myeon and Yangdong-myeon, Gimpo-gun[17] , Bucheon-gun Ojeong-myeon 2 Gae-ri and Sosa-eup 7 Gae-ri[18] , Siheung-gun Dong-myeon 4 Gae-ri and Sindong-myeon were incorporated to become a large district that governs all of the southwestern part of Seoul. In other words, everything from Gimpo Airport to Yangjae-dong was under the jurisdiction of Yeongdeungpo-gu.[19]

Administrative districts of Seoul from 1963 to 1972. Yeongdeungpo-gu and Seongdong-gu are really big and beautiful. The current Gangnam area was called Yeongdong in the past ( Yeongdong Bridge is the trace), but it was called Yeongdong because it was east of Yeongdeungpo-gu.

Around 1967, a plan to be promoted to a 'city' of Yeongdeungpo under the Seoul Metropolitan Government was reviewed .[20]

According to the 1970 census, the population of Yeongdeungpo-gu reached an all-time high of 1,182,759 . Anyway, the population was greater than the current population of Ulsan Metropolitan City . At that time, unlike today, Yeongdeungpo-gu was a vast area that included the entire southwestern part of Seoul, and it was before it was divided, so it was bound to have a large population. Since then, there has still been no autonomous district with a population comparable to this one.[21][22] Since Yeongdeungpo-gu Office could not handle all affairs due to its large population and wide jurisdiction, the Yangseo Branch was established in Yeongdeungpo-gu .[23] , Yangdong Branch Office[24] , Gwanak Branch Office[25] , Oryu Branch Office[26] , Shindong Branch Office was established to decentralize administrative functions.

Later, in 1973, the east side of the district was subdivided into Gwanak-gu, and the boundary between Gaebong-dong and Gwangmyeong-ri, Seo-myeon, Siheung-gun (now Gwangmyeong-dong, Gwangmyeong-si) was fine-tuned.

File:attachment/...
In 1975, each part of Daebang-dong and Sindaebang-dong in Gwanak-gu was incorporated into Singil-dong (currently most of Singil 6-dong and Singil 7-dong), and the boundary was adjusted based on Daebang-ro .[27] Also, part of Doksan-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu (currently Doksan-dong, Geumcheon-gu) was incorporated into Sillim-dong, Gwanak-gu (part of Jowon-dong, administrative dong).

In 1977, the west side of the district was divided into Gangseo-gu, and in 1980, the southwest side of the district was divided into Guro-gu, which continues to this day. At this time, the Shindorim-dong area that remained in Yeongdeungpo-gu became Daerim-dong . At the time of the division of Guro-gu, a plan to integrate Gwangmyeong-dong and Cheolsan-dong of Gwangmyeong-si into Guro-gu was reviewed.[28]

Guro-gu, Gangseo-gu (including Yangcheon-gu), Gwanak-gu (including Dongjak-gu), and Seocho-gu (belonging to Seongdong-gu right before separation) were separated from Yeongdeungpo-gu. At the time of the division of Yeongdeungpo-gu, a plan to incorporate Sindaebang-dong, Daebang-dong, and Noryangjin-dong, which had already been transferred to Gwanak-gu (now Dongjak-gu), into Yeongdeungpo-gu was considered.

[1] The current Daerim-dong and Dorim-dong areas.[2] Integration of Sachon-ri (Mulrae-dong) + Doyami-ri (Sindorim-dong) + Wonjimok-ri (Dorim-dong, Daerim-dong)[3] It was reorganized twice in 1936 and 1943. However, the current Daerim-dong was not incorporated into Gyeongseong-bu at that time , so it was transferred to Dong-myeon, Siheung-gun . Daerim-dong was incorporated into Seoul in 1949.[4] Among Dorim-ri, only the current Mullae-dong ( Sachon-ri in the late Joseon Dynasty) and Dorim-dong (part of Wonjimok-ri in the late Joseon Dynasty) were incorporated into Gyeongseong-bu in 1936.[5] Dorim-ri, Siheung-gun was incorporated into 'Sindorim-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu'.[6] Current Bupyeong and Bucheon areas[7] There is an error in the map. Since Yeouido belonged to Hanseong-bu , it did not follow the rules of ○○-ri , ○○-myeon, ○○-gun. At the time of the late Joseon Dynasty , the administrative district of Yeouido was Yeonhuibang, Hanseong-bu , and Yeouido-ri, Yeonhui - myeon, Gyeongsul -bu at the same time as Gyeongsul Gukchi . .[8] Meanwhile, three years ago, in 1911, the current Siheung-dong, Geumcheon-gu, Siheung-gun was also moved to Yeongdeungpo.[9] There is an error in this map that Sangdo-ri, which remained in Dong-myeon, is marked as Buk-myeon.[10] It is true that the Guro Industrial Complex was developed in conjunction with the city planning of Seoul, but the ultimate construction body was the central government, not the Seoul Metropolitan Government, and the current Geumcheon-gu area is located along the Gyeongbu Line railroad, so even if the Yeongdeungpo area belonged to Yeongdeungpo City, not Seoul City, the Guro Industrial Complex was created. The plan would not have been very different from now.[11] As an aside, these areas were Sutan-myeon, Bupyeong Dohobu.[12] Former Siheung-gun Buk-myeon[13] Former Siheung-gun Seo-myeon[14] Dong-myeon, Siheung-gun[15] Former Siheung-gun Anyang-myeon[16] The Siheung-gun Office in Yeongdeungpo was moved to Anyang-myeon in 1947.[17] Most of present-day Gangseo-gu and all of Yangcheon-gu. It is also the territory of Yangcheon-gun before the integration and abolition of Bugun-myeon.[18] Current Guro-gu Gocheok-dong, Gaebong-dong, Oryu-dong, Onsu-dong, Gung-dong, Hang-dong, and Cheonwang-dong. It is also an area to the west of Anyangcheon in Guro-gu .[19] For this reason, Gangseo-gu, Yangcheon-gu, Guro-gu, Geumcheon-gu, Dongjak-gu, Gwanak-gu, and Seocho-gu, including Yeongdeungpo-gu , are classified as the ' pan(凡) Yeongdeungpo area '.[20] In the mid-1970s, a plan to incorporate the current Gwangmyeong-si into Gwangmyeong-si under the Seoul Metropolitan Government was reviewed.[21] At that time, the population of Yeongdeungpo-gu was It is equivalent to the population of Suwon, the first city in Gyeonggi- do . That's the old population of 47 years ago.[22] Comparing the districts with the highest population in each metropolitan city, Buk-gu (now Bupyeong-gu ) in Incheon Metropolitan City had 750,000 people in the population in 1995 before Gyeyang-gu was subdivided, Daegu Metropolitan City 570,000 people in 1987, just before Seo - gu was divided into Dalseo-gu, Busan Metropolitan City Dongrae-gu was 890,000 people in 1988, just before the division of Geumjeong-gu , Daejeon Metropolitan City Jung-gu Ga, just before Seo-gu Bun-gu in 1987 , 540,000 people, Gwangju Metropolitan City Just before Seo- gu divided Nam-gu in 1995, it has the highest population record at 470,000, and Ulsan Metropolitan City Jung - gu recorded 290,000 people in 1996 before Buk-gu was divided into Buk-gu with parts of Ulju-gu ( now Ulju - gun). In other words, the districts with the highest population other than Yeongdeungpo-gu had a population of 1.01 million in early January, before Seodaemun-gu handed over administrative dongs to neighboring districts in 1975, Gangdong-gu immediately before Songpa-gu in 1987 had 1.13 million , and Seongbuk -gu in 1973 Dobong -gu (subdivision). At that time, it governed the entire Nodogang River area), 1.11 million people were recorded before the burial, and Dongdaemun-gu and Seongdong- gu recorded about 940,000 people right before the burial, although at different times.[23] Oebalsan-dong, Naebalsan-dong, Banghwa-dong, Gonghang-dong, Osoe-dong, Ogok-dong, Gwahae-dong, Gangseo-gu[24] Gangseo-gu, Deungchon-dong, Gayang-dong, Yeomchang-dong, Magok-dong, Yangcheon-gu[25] All of Geumcheon-gu, Garibong-dong, Guro-gu, Bongcheon-dong, Sillim-dong, Gwanak-gu[26] Oryu-dong, Gocheok-dong, Gaebong-dong, Gung-dong, Cheonwang-dong, Hang-dong, Onsu-dong, Guro-gu[27] Because of this, there are still quite a few facilities with 'Daebang' in their names, although their current address is Singil-dong in the area ( Daebang Station , Daebang Elementary School, Daebang-dong Apartment, Catholic Daebang-dong Cathedral, etc.).[28] The result of this was promoted to Gwangmyeong- si in 1981 .
