Manisha Koirala Talks About Her Intimate Scene With Shekhar In Bhansali's Heeramandi, Working With The Three Khans

Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala is riding high on success with the release of her digital debut series 'Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar.'

New Delhi: Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala is riding high on success with the release of her digital debut series 'Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar.' The 90's star who has made an impactful comeback with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's directorial venture, is garnering acclaim from all corners. Manisha Koirala essays the role of 'Mallikajaan', the queen of Heeramandi, in the courtesan drama that released on Netflix on May 1.

During an interview with Bollywood Bubble, the 'Dil Se' actress opened up about the oral sex scene featuring her and Shekhar Suman in Heeramandi and how it was shot.

On being asked if she was informed beforehand about the scene with Shekhar Suman, Manisha said, "See, every little thing Sanjay does, he tries to bring in a new element that we hadn't thought of, and he does it. So even about this scene, when rehearsals were going on, it must have been new."

For those unfamiliar, in the scene, Shekhar's character approaches Mallikajaan, played by Manisha, but he is too intoxicated to realize where she is seated. According to Shekhar, Bhansali had imagined the nawab turning around mid-air for fellatio, mistakenly believing that Mallikajaan was seated on that side.

Talking about the scene earlier in another interview, Shekhar Suman had shared that Bhansali had improvised the scene at the last minute. "The scene is about a nawab who is peeing out of a carriage, and in his state of inebriation is trying to make out with Mallikajaan. Bhansali wanted the nawab to turn around, and get fellatio mid-air, thinking that Mallikajaan is sitting on that side. And he’s convinced. It was a strange interpretation, and it hasn’t been done by anybody before, somebody having sex mid-air. He said, ‘I’m fine if you say no, if you find it too bizarre’,” he had said.

Manisha talks about changes in Bhansali of 'Khamoshi' and 'Heeramandi'

Manisha Koirala, who is a well-known actress of the 90s, worked with Sanjay Leela Bhansali in his directorial debut 'Khamoshi.' The musical drama featured her opposite Salman Khan with Nana Patekar and Seema Biswas essaying the role of her parents. The actress has collaborated with the director once again after 26 years.

Sharing her thoughts on how Sanjay Leela Bhansali's way of working has changed over the years, Manisha said, "Quite a bit has changed, but quite a bit is still the same. He has a desire to make good films, and he still has the same passion. The desire to make excellent cinema, I think that is intact."

"Khamoshi is one of my most favourite films, and I think it's very poetic, simple, and beautiful. Soulful, but now the characters, like the scale of Hira Mandi, I mean my God, the scale of Hira Mandi, all the characters are layered, no good and bad. There's work happening in the gray shade, you know, and what lavishness, what grandeur, and what drama, so it's completely different," she added.

Manisha Koirala on working with the three Khans

Manisha Koirala is one of the few actresses who has had the opportunity to work with the three Khans of the industry: Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan during her illustrious career.

Talking about her 'Dil Se' co-star Shah Rukh Khan, Manisha said, "I admire Shah Rukh; I feel he's the biggest star, and I also like his philosophical side, even though it's not always visible."

Praising Salman for doing charity through his organisation Being Human, the actress said, "Salman has been quite open with his charity work, helping the needy, including many cancer patients. He's strict with doctors, making sure they don't use his name for publicity when he helps someone. It's remarkable how good-hearted he is."

Speaking about her 'Akele Hum Akele Tum' co-star Aamir Khan, the 'Mann' actress said, "When I started doing films again after battling cancer, I aimed to follow his example. In the last 10-15 years, he has done films one after the other, portraying new characters and acting styles in each one. I wanted my graph to be like his, as an actor and an artist, to do something different with each role, not just for the sake of it but to contribute to the art."
