Does anyone still honestly use IGN or gameinformer for reviews.

We all know they get paid for reviews and no matter how good or bad a game is it’s very obvious it’s based on what the publisher payed. I’m just watching one of their reviews laughing for when you watch gameplay it’s pretty obvious they don’t know what they’re doing.

Reviewers don't flat out get paid for game reviews. However, they do like to keep good relationships with developers/publishers for the benefits that come along with it. Usually game critics will get flown out, stay at fancy hotels and get early hands on for new games if the devs/publishers like them. So because of this they usually try and play it safe with their criticisms.

I'll read articles from websites like IGN and Gameinformer, but just out of curiously. I mostly rely on a couple of YouTubers I trust.

Same I mean they gave cod ghost a nine out of ten

That's just one person who reviewed for IGN, they have many different people who have done reviews for them. You might not agree with that person giving it a 9/10, but chances are, there's also a different person at IGN who would give it a 5/10.

Reviews from big websites don't reflect the overall views of everyone who works there, it's just the views of one person. Pay attention to the writers of articles you like and don't like, that way you know what's worth reading/listening to.

All their reviews for large titles are always better or better than everyone else’s. They’re honestly a joke anymore at least too me. They’re a so many better you tube reviewers who actually give a real review

Edited

All their reviews for large titles are always better or better than everyone else’s.

What do you mean here?

But my main point is publishers/developers don't pay critics for positive reviews, at least not directly. There's just no proof of this happening so far. My secondary point is there are many reviewers who write for big websites, some you'll agree with and some you won't. I usually don't think much of IGN articles, but some of their writers are better than others.

Ohh I know what you mean but it’s pretty obvious that they get paid at the higher ups and ho tell the reviewers it can’t be below this score. Unless a game is absolutely fucked if it’s triple a it almost never goes below 8. They have been caught getting paid

I do when i need a good laugh from the casual gamer writer.

I swore off reviews in the 360 days. I just started noticing a pattern in Official Xbox Magazine and then saw that pattern repeat on sites like IGN, Gamespot, etc...

Nowadays, I can't trust a review to not be paid, or not to be following the hype train.

I usually just go blind, which results in some duds, but also some nice surprises.

Gameranx, angryjoe, skillup, and Jim sterling are all pretty fair and good

No way. They are bought and paid for by game publishers and activists.

Nope. If there is a game I'm really interested in, I wait until it has come out and someone does a Let's Play of it. I'll watch the first couple of episodes and decide then if I want to get it.

IGN is still around? I stop reading or seeing anything of them back in 2012...
You can't spell ignorant without IGN...

Haha that’s great

It's an old saying about IGN. Was quite common to read this comment a few years ago.

New to Reddit lol I think I have heard but still very accurate lol.

IGN was a great gaming site back in the early 2000's... But that is long gone .
We now have better and less bias reviews from random youtubers than on IGN.

Riigghhhtttt

Dont really look at reviews, just some gameplay videos

I don't use any websites (IGN, gamesradar, gamespot, pcgamer, the verge, the list goes on) for their "reviews", I honestly think all of them have hired incompetents with no true "gamer spirit" or skill to write their shitty articles for them. I generally browse reddit and certain youtube channels for game information, as well as metacritic score.

They gave Death Stranding, a game Sony was incredibly pushing, a 6.8/10.

And as someone who loves that game, I’m happy the reviewer stuck to his take on the game.

That’s still a high rating if you ask me I know the story is amazing but the rest....
