The current Winnipeg Jets originate back to the Atlanta Thrashers, which joined the league during the 1999 Expansion. The Thrashers struggled during their existence with only one postseason appearance in 12 seasons. Following the 2010-11 season, they relocated to Winnipeg to bring back the Jets franchise name. The Jets have had moderate success since relocating with six postseason appearances in 12 seasons.

Winnipeg Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff has six restricted free agents (RFAs) on his books, three from the NHL roster and three who spent their seasons in the AHL with the Manitoba Moose. Cheveldayoff has some tough decisions to make.
