Many of these photos are from the photo album that belonged to Paulita Maxwell who was the alleged love of Billy the Kid, and the daughter of wealthy land baron, Lucian B. Maxwell. Billy was killed in the room of her brother Pete Maxwell in Fort Sumner. Paulita and the family servant Delevina were the first people to the scene when Billy was shot by Sheriff Pat Garrett. Delevina was the first to enter into the room to verify whether Billy was indeed dead.

Richard M. "Dick" Brewer, 1850-1878. Born in St. Alban's, VT, and raised in Boaz, WI, by 1876, Brewer was cattle foreman for John Tunstall. After Tunstall's murder, Brewer was chosen to lead the posse to apprehend the killers. That posse became The Regulators. He did not agree with the killing of Sheriff Brady. Brewer was killed in the shootout with Buckshot Roberts at Blazer's Mill, 4 April 1878. Five other Regulators were wounded in that fight, including George Coe who lost a finger.

In the summer of 1881, Billy the Kid, hiding out around the hamlet of Fort Sumner in east-central New Mexico, should have known that Lincoln County Sheriff Pat Garrett would try to hunt him down and kill him.

The Sundance Kid (Henry Longabaugh) earned his nickname when he was caught and convicted of horse thievery in Sundance, Wyoming. After his release from jail in he and Robert LeRoy Parker aka “Butch Cassidy” formed the gang known as the Wild Bunch.

Alexander McSween. He came to Lincoln in 1877 as a Lawyer for LG Murphy and James J. Dolan. Accused of embezzlement, McSween left and allied himself with John Tunstall and became his lawyer. When Tunstall was murdered in 1878, McSween was later gunned down on the fifth day of what became known as the Five Day Battle that ended the Lincoln County War.

Fred Waite, 1853-1895. Chickasaw cowboy, Tunstall employee and Regulator. Member of Dick Brewer's posse chasing Tunstall's murderers. Became a member of Billy's gang, along with Jose Chavez, Henry Brown, Jim French and Charlie Bowdre. Present at the ambush of Sheriff Brady, and at the fight at Blazer's Mill. He later returned to the Chickasaw Nation and became successful politician. Groomed to become Governor of the Chickasaw Nation, he died at the age of 41.

Richard M. "Dick" Brewer, 1850-1878. Born in St. Alban's, VT, and raised in Boaz, WI, by 1876, Brewer was cattle foreman for John Tunstall. After Tunstall's murder, Brewer was chosen to lead the posse to apprehend the killers. That posse became The Regulators. He did not agree with the killing of Sheriff Brady. Brewer was killed in the shootout with Buckshot Roberts at Blazer's Mill, 4 April 1878. Five other Regulators were wounded in that fight, including George Coe who lost a finger.
