Born on November 4, 1936 and died on December 10, 2023. He graduated from St. Robert’s Grade School in 1950, Milwaukee County Day School (U.S.M.) in 1954 and was inducted into its Hall of Fame in 2022, Williams College B.A. with Honors in 1958, and Marquette University Law School, J.D. and Associate Editor of the Law Review in 1961. He was a member of the American Bar Association, the Milwaukee Bar Association, the Wisconsin Bar Association and the Federal Bar Association. Bill was a member of the Milwaukee Athletic Club and the Milwaukee Country Club for many years.

He was predeceased by his father, Dr. George William Fox, II and his mother Elise Warren Scott.  He was also predeceased by his first wife, Constance Wegmann, and by his second wife, Karen Percy.

Bill was survived by 6 children and 10 grandchildren, namely, Dr. Michael Percy Fox, his wife Lindsay Schneider Fox, and their two children, Chappie Thomas Fox and Wren Lily Fox; Stephen Christopher Fox, his wife Marie Christine Cabot Fox and their three children, Elise Ann (Lucy) Fox, Kaya Kohler Fox and Grace Percy Fox; Martha Mary Ziegler and her two children, Jaxon James Ziegler and Ryder Fox Ziegler; Timothy Scott Fox, his wife Faye Marie Fredricks Fox and their two children, Matthew Davis Fox and Natalie Marie Fox; Jenifer Millard Fox; and William Fitzhugh Fox, Jr., his husband Mark McGuigan, and his son, George William Fox, and George’s mother, Joyce Spindler. Further survived by a brother, Richard T. Fox (Kathy) and a sister, Mary Fox Wheeler.

He served his community well in the following roles: Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee (1968 to his date of death) and was inducted into the Clubs’ Hall of Fame in 2018; National Center for Housing Management, Washington, D.C. (Board of Directors 1981 to his date of death); Theatre X (Board of Directors from 1993 to 1993); Milwaukee Art Museum (Board of Directors and Secretary 1980 to 1983); Circus World Museum (Board of Directors 1998 to 2004); The Great Circus Parade, Inc. (1990 to 2009 as Co-Chairman); The Greater Milwaukee Foundation (Board of Directors and Past Chairman form 1993 to 2003); Milwaukee County Research Park Corporation (Board of Directors from 1996 to 2014); Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (Board of Directors from 1999 to 2001); Schlitz Audubon Nature Center (Board of Directors from 2002 to 2006),

Bill was the Senior Partner in the law firm of Fox, O’Neill & Shannon, where he specialized in estate planning, administrative probate, tax, securities regulation, general business, non-profits, real estate, mergers and acquisitions and federal Indian gaming, particularly with respect to the Potawatomi Tribe in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Visitation will be held Thursday, December 14, from 4:00PM until 7:00PM at the Feerick Funeral Home, 2025 E. Capitol Dr., Shorewood, WI 53211. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00AM at Old St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 836 N. Broadway, Milwaukee, WI 53202 (corner of Broadway and Kilbourn). A reception will follow. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bill’s name may be made to Three Holy Women Parish, in care of Fr. Tim Kitzke, 1716 N. Humboldt Ave., Milwaukee, WI 53202. Special thank you to Father Tim Kitzke and Cantor Amy Sobczak, whose support over the years has been important and immeasurable.
