Grey is Wilko's best-selling paint colour for the home, the retailer has revealed.
As part of its 90th anniversary, Wilko analysed sales of its paint range from the last 20 years in order to gain insight into how trends have evolved over time. While grey unsurprisingly came out on top (with the Grey Whisper shade taking prime position), the research also found a rising interest in millennial pink, bright citrus yellow and festive red tones.
Wilko's findings also discovered that much-loved 90s home makeover show, Changing Rooms, saw Brits embrace magnolia and cream, while the grey hues we see in homes today ride off the back of social media celebrities — notably the queen of clean, Mrs Hinch.
Wilko explains: 'The popularity of interior Instagrammers is heavily influential when it comes to how we style our homes, and the popularity of grey paint could be the latest example of the Mrs Hinch-effect, which has previously seen sales of items including cleaning products skyrocket.
'For example, The Pink Stuff reported a 350 per cent increase in sales over six months since the cleaning superstar featured the Wilko-stocked product on her Instagram channel.'
