Product description

Official Wikipedia App for Android. Wikipedia is the free encyclopedia containing more than 32 million articles in 280 languages, and is the most comprehensive and widely used reference work humans have ever compiled.

Features:
- Tabbed browsing: pressing-and-holding a link lets you open it in a new tab, allowing you to keep reading the current article without losing your place, and switch to the new tab when you're ready.
- Link previews: Tapping on a link shows a preview of the linked article, giving you a chance to get the gist of the link without losing your place in the article you're reading.
- Lead images: experience Wikipedia like never before with a prominent, contextually-relevant image and description at the top of articles
- Image gallery: tapping on an image shows you the image full-screen in high resolution, with options to swipe left/right for browsing additional images
- Descriptions from Wikidata: when searching, each search result now contains a quick description that helps to contextualize the result. These descriptions are also shown in other areas of the app, like Nearby
- Article suggestions: scroll to the bottom of an article to see suggestions about what you could read next
- Saved pages: save select pages for offline reading and browse them even when you don't have a data connection
- Language support: seamlessly switch to reading Wikipedia written in any language, either by changing the language of the current article, or changing your preferred search language while searching.
- Table of contents: swipe left on any article to bring up the table of contents, which lets you jump to article sections easily.

This app gets me to Wiki faster, helps me to access information more readily and easily by allowing the resizing of pages, for example. It quite simply helps me to do something I want to do. In this case, I want to get to Wiki. The value of doing this is relative. For me, getting to Wiki has value. While not as venerable as my old multi-volume Britannica, Wiki is far more convenient, light-weight, and, above all, inexpensive! It's not quite as even in tone, style, or reliability, of course. It's quite obvious that the different articles are written by different authors with varying talents. But, as long as it is used judiciously, but not slavishly, I think Wiki is a fantastic reference tool and this app quite simply makes it easier for me to use it, and it does so without taking up too much space, without troubling other apps or the OS. All of this = FIVE STARS!

Of all information sources, this one holds itself and its articles open to constant review. I don't know that all articles are always correct all the time. What I do know is that this is the place to come for accurate information and then link over to expert sites or publications. for more in depth information.

I trust the work of the founders and volunteer reviewers enough that I am saying "thanks" by making a monthly donation. I contribute to charities I hope I never need help from. Here, I do know I need the help that is provided. Where else could I ask a contributor to back up a claim I think is wrong, get a responsive answer, and see a change that leaves me better informed?

It is a library where you can be noisy - no one can hear you, you can ask any question and get a factual response or an opportunity to initiate creating a new topic. How heady is that? If we could only get The Wiki to travel back to 1939. Earlier would really cause history to become disjointed even beyond what most of might imagine..

Momos I am almost totally blind and have always been using Siri to find stuff in Wikipedia because it was difficult to try to just go through the Internet to find stuff with this application you’re right at home plate and you can go wherever you need to go. I love Wikipedia I’m sure it has solved a lot of bar arguments over the years about who is in what movie or what are the scores somebody has it’s an excellent thing to have handy and available when you’re having an argument and you know you’re right unless you’re wrong and then you never admit it after you get the information everybody should do their own research :-) I couldn’t be happier to have this also I am using Siri to write this and sorry for any inappropriate or weird words put in here but I can only hear what it says after I post it and then it’s usually too late to fix it :-) however I think you will enjoy Wikipedia unless you have been totally out of it I’m sure you’re familiar with it I never even knew they had an application. Again thank you for taking the time to read my review have an excellent day happy searching

Instant mobile friendly access to Wikipedia. Works like any other website app. Create your own Wikipedia account or sign on with this app and manage it. You don't even need an account to enjoy browsing Wikipedia with this app. Wikipedia is a good starting point for information. Of course you should not take everything on this site as absolute fact as this online encyclopedia is 100% community supported. Always look at the references under the article and use them to help launch your own research. This app will help you pull up any Wikipedia page in a flash and make it fit user friendly on any device you use it on. The price is wonderful. FREE!

Reliable, informative and, the vast majority of the time, accurate, Wikipedia is as good as being left alone in a great reference library and skipping from one book to another as new areas of interest arise. It's a lot easier, too. A constant research venue for me as a writer and, when I am not working, I can get lost in Wiki for hours, knowing where I started, amazed at where I ended up, and having had a great deal of fun along the way. Also comes in very handy, by the way, for settling arguments. Thank you, Wikipedia. I don't know what I'd do without you.

Wikipedia is a doorway to the free (!) world of an online encyclopedia. Occasionally (once a year), they ask for donations, usually not much. It is possible to insert encyclopedic additions of your own, but beware! It is quite large and complete. I would imagine it is all checked, too. Being online and insertable, it is very large, so it is likely you will find the title you want to read about. They have 'searchable content', 'In The News', a 'featured article', a 'picture of the day', 'today on Wikipedia', and a 'random article' on Wikipedia. You could get lost reading about all that stuff, so look out! Each article is as complete as an encyclopedia should be, telling about various functions of that title, including references, and a 'read more' section. If a timeline is required, it will show it, and includes some pictures. Each article will have words singular or plural, highlighted in blue to reference other articles explaining that word or words. Overall, it surely is a complete and functional online encyclopedia necessary for one wanting to use one.

A great app which is great and free, really free.
I've always supported Wikipedia .... like the www it's a humanitarian addition to our lives.
It has information that is usually accurate ..... you can tell if it's bogus .......about everything under the sun.
The daily articles are much better to read than the gloomy, at times, news and are informative and interesting.
If I had one very small whinge, and it may very well be me having a foggy brain, it's USA based but that's cool cos it's good to read about another country but it's a very small whinge cos I find the history contents too good for words.
Thank you Mr Wikipedia !
