Guns n Roses Bottling Edit

A friend of mine who was at the download festival told me that the bottle which hit the Guns n Roses bassist was filled with urine, so I added that detail.

How exactly would your friend have known that as a fact unless they personally threw it or stood next to the person throwing it? Please dont include infomation where your only source is from 'a friend' who was in a crowd of many thousands and probabley nowhere near the incident. -Reue-

I see you point in this but I have also heard from many people that the bottle was full of urine. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.104.203.243 (talk) 21:21, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

163.1.95.112's edits

The user with IP 163.1.95.112 has been making numerous silly edits, and still believes that "James Dodd" has a claim to fame as organising Metallica's surprise gig at Download festival. This is clearly immature nonsensical tripe and I can personally vouch for this fact being fabricated, albeit not maliciously.

These are anonymous edits. As a side point, the vandal should not spend time editing an encyclopaedia that he thinks is a waste of time; his continuous efforts to undermine this wealth of (pseudo-)knowledge appears to vindicate Wikipedia's position as one of the greatest resources of information available.

Some of you may remember an article about "James Dodd" with this claim which was then put up for deletion. The result was, of course, delete.

twisted realm

i've never heard of this twisted realm thing DOES USER: x-rATED have any proof of it actual involvement with the festival? Jamie-planetx 11:32, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

Jamie-planetx: Twisted Realm dose exist - the details are on my website and you look it up on the offical download website for proof.

Furter to that, I would like to point it is not offically involved with the festival - it's just a promoter and a few bands getting together on campfield playing some songs. -23:07, 24 April 2006 SanityFreeZone

im not sure about this, the entry should stay it seems to be the only media coveraged your gonna get, im not sure what you plan to do i mean do you have a stage is it the NEW campsite stage, live nation have already stated that there will be non-stop campsite entertainment this year do you plan to be apart of that? or DO YOU PLAN TO OUT-DO IT? im just checkin the site and there is bugger all there, but if you mean the boards i feel very sorry for you. i do have semi-high respect for serj-tankian, the aparent creator of this horiible idea, i mean god only knows how many idiots take a guitar for there own entertainment, surely this is nothing special? please respond Jamie-planetx 16:31, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

200 people probably didn't turn up last year to see the other "idiots with guitars."

Interesting point. Twisted realm does exist (I've been to it a couple of years running). It's unofficial (nothing to do with the organisers) but it is advertised, and does attract an audience. And for documentary evidence there's all the YouTube coverage you can eat.

I'm not suggesting the inclusion of Twisted Realm on wikipedia.

However, there are other events at this festival which may (as the future pans out) have a place on this page. There are events organised for/by the festival's online comminity with a lot of assistance from Live Nation which are not billed, but do include e.g. up and coming bands which, in my opinion, deserve a mention. The "breakout" stage, for example, will not be on any billing but is run on the night before official opening within "the Village" (an entertainment centre which is outside the main arena). It atracts up to 1000 people and showcases bands associated with community members. Some of these are published/recording acts.

Question : Is that even deserving of mention here ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wikiwonko (talkcontribs) 03:05, 21 January 2012 (UTC)

Answer: Maybe not today, but keep an eye on it. The Breakout stage is becoming an important part of the event - certainly as important as, say, the comedians and cabaret in "The village". It is billed and advertised on the official web site and in their programmes, and is booking increasingly well known bands, DJs etc. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wikiwonko (talkcontribs) 20:48, 22 April 2012 (UTC)

new page

i thought of placing the 2006 section into a new page and keep this page to concern the history of the download festival i thought the 2006 section looked clutered and out of place, i have named the page This years download festival so it can be re-edited to contain information about future download festivals i have removed previous talk about 2006 and applyied it to the This years download festival talk page.--172.209.53.212 23:30, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

Sounds like a good idea to me, the current page is always suseptable to vanadalism from people placing fake line ups so it could solve some problems. But the articles would need to be merged after the festival is it really worth it? --Seth Turner 07:10, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
yeah i was kinda ticked about that Jamie-planetx 21:06, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

Vandalism and False Lineups

Again, like the page that was merged with this article, this page is becoming increasingly annoying to maintain, people keep adding bands to the lineup that arent playing. 2006 US Festivals

Can someone add information on the two festivals from '06 that took place in the US? Informative link. I don't know enough about the connection between the two "branches" (UK/US) to do so intelligently. --Dante Alighieri | Talk 23:56, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

theyre not so much a rock/metal festival in the vein of previous donington festivals, they are much smaller events and feature bands such as the killers, etc.

2004 Lineup

Anyone able to modify the 2004 lineup to reflect the fact that Instruction actually played twice on the Saturday. As well as their slot as shown, they also opened the main stage (as originally billed) CaptainCarrot105 13:37, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

I'm not very experienced with this, but someone really needs to update this page to show the US concerts. Download's been at shoreline since '05, and I've gone every year. Emo bands

I think that in the genre section at the top of the page it should state that the festival has emo bands playing. it says it has grunge bands that play, butif you look at the lineups, especially 2005's you will see conciderably more emo bands than grunge. so i dont see why emo keeeps on getting deleted. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 213.120.81.205 (talkcontribs) 15:09, March 14, 2007 (UTC)

Please read WP:ATT for why this keeps getting removed. When the Download Festival organizers start describing the festival as an Emo festival, then this page will be updated to include that. AlistairMcMillan 16:15, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

Well they arent going to call it emo due to it having somewhat of a bad press amongst metal and hard rock fans. people call genres of music all kinds of things, jus like one of the festivals main organisers "Kerrang!". That magazine is full of emo, yet they still insist on calling it rock.

the fact is, the festival features a lot of emo bands so i think it should be included in the genre section. Even when you click on some of the links to the bands wiki sites they are described as emo. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 213.120.81.205 (talkcontribs) 14:49, March 19, 2007 (UTC)

That's nice. Please read WP:ATT. Please note, zero results for "emo" on the Download Festival website. AlistairMcMillan 16:53, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for the lovely sarcastic response, but when i tried to link the word "emo" to the emo music wiki, the link didn't seem to work. Im sure if you ask most of the people who attent the festival, they would aggree that there are indeed emo bands playing at the festival. Probably the reason why emo comes under fire on the download forums. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 62.189.96.213 (talkcontribs) 16:02, March 20, 2007 (UTC)

Sorry but unless you can come up with a "reliable source" saying that the Download Festival is a festival of emo music, then we can't say that in the article. Thanks. AlistairMcMillan 16:46, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

2007 Info

I have deleted:

"Dez Fafara announced on the DevilDriver World online forum that DevilDriver, hope to get in the Guinness World Records book for the size of their circle pit at this festival.[1]"

As it is certainly not remarkable and does not appear relevant to an encyclopedia. Anyone can announce they are going to try to get into the world record books.

The 2007 infomation section needs cleaning up as it is a bit all over the place and contains quite alot of unremarkable infomation without citations. -Reue-

2007 info updated

There seems to be a paragraph detailing the bottling during my chemical romance and aiden and how there sets were cut short. I unfortunately was at the aiden set and im pretty sure they played there full set, i also read that MCR were only bottled for there first 4 songs or so then it subdued, and that they finished there set early because their guitarist slipped on some of the water from the bottles injuring his back.

Are there any sources for the statements? if not perhaps it should be deleted as its not really that important.

it also seems a bit biast towards the people bottling, calling the bottlers "metal fans" when there is no evidence to sugest this. 212.140.250.54 11:58, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Why is it called download? Does it support p2p/torrents?

XXMurderSoulXx 14:32, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

I don't know, why dont you write to Live Nation and ask?

BobGarage (from what i remember) The festival tickets for the first (2003) festival had a special code on them that allowed you to download a track from each artists performing at the event. Hence the name "download". Don't know if its still done I haven't been to download in years now. —Preceding undated comment was added on 17:29, 17 February 2009 (UTC).

The festival is called download because the idea was you would be able to download the bands sets after the festival, the organisers have said they regret the name download. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.109.233.197 (talk) 00:07, 7 March 2011 (UTC)

MCR Edits

Is there any reason why someone keeps on putting up stuff about my chemical romance being bottled? As far as i can see, bottling happens at most if not all festivals, so i dont see why this one should be included in a wikipedia article. Fair enough if one of the bottles knocked one of the band out, that would be notable. But it just seems like some pathetic atempt for "real metal fans" to voice their oppinion on how they dont want this type of music at the festival. Dont get me wrong, i cant stand MCR, i just dont think their bottling is really that important to be put into the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.140.250.54 (talk) 11:28, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

I note the line in the Download 2007 regarding 'riot fears' from the announcement of MCR playing has now received a citation. I have checked this link and there is no information regarding this allegation. I have therefore removed this comment pending a better / accurate citation.--Nickharker (talk) 13:35, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

I recently added to the 2008 section on how the organisers have stated that Rage Against The Machine had agreed to be a headliner and then pulled out to play Leeds/Reading instead because they were being offered more money.... I was just enguiring as to why this was removed? It is not speculation this is confirmed by the festivals organisers themselves at the recent fan forum on May 2nd in London so why was it removed? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.42.107.105 (talk) 17:53, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

2009 days/stages

A lot of bands have been arranged into the days and stages they are playing (on wiki), but where are the sources for this? I am assuming some bands will have the date they're playing listed in their tour dates, but where do the stages come from? Mark handscombe (talk) 18:00, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

Most bands have confirmed either via their websites, MySpace pages or by some other means. Motley Crue have also been confirmed as second stage by mention of Lauren Harris' tour dates on her MySpace page, which state she is playing the 'Motley Crue Fest, Second Stage' at Download, Friday June 12th. While of course this isn't officially confirmed, it isn't the only place where the information has come from regarding Motley Crue's position on the line-up.

Faith No More, Korn, Limp Bizkit, Opeth, Lawnmower Deth, and many more, have all stated the days on which they are playing, and in some cases, the stages too.

I do agree though that it needs to be sourced better, and perhaps restricted to stop people vandalising the pages with false information and mindless rants about the line-up. --81.145.161.197 (talk) 09:14, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

2010 days

from looking at this [1] do you think its a good idea to start putting the bands in columns as to what day they are playing? or should we wait till a few more bands are announced and what stage they are playing on. Ben 00:54, 16 February 2010 (UTC)

Done Thanks for putting it in table format too, it made it easier for me! CTJF83 pride 17:40, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

2011 table.

Organised the current announced 2011 lineup into a table - apparently there's more to come tomorrow (December 6th) so I think it makes sense to have it like this. --Negrostink (talk) 15:54, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

Is there any source to say Linkin Park are headlining Friday night? Looking at the poster it looks as if they're playing Sunday. 109.175.211.46 (talk) 10:33, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

Semi Protection request

I don't know how to do it, or if an admin needs to do it but recently the 2011 table is being vandalised by people who think it's funny to add stupid names/acts to the list Mark handscombe (talk) 15:57, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

Skunk Anansie - DL 2011

Skunk Anansie should be added to Download 2011 lineup inbetween Avenged Sevenfold and Down on Saturday. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dragyth (talkcontribs) 09:39, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

Hollywood Undead 2011

Confirmed for Saturday main stage, based on their positioning on the poster they will most likely be playing between Down and All That Remains.

Edit request on 16 January 2012

The 2003 event attracted 70,000 people over two days. The 2004 event attracted 80,000 people over two days.

The 2005 first three day event attracted close to 100,000 people , although the Friday attendance was quite low compared to the following two days.

In 2006 A record at the time of 150,000 people attended over the three days.

The 2007 saw what was another record turnout with a sell out on weekend tickets. Upto 75,000 people per day attended - the biggest attendance since the the days of the Monsters of Rock Festival.

With a lot of issues regarding the site layout and various other factors the attendance was a lot lower approximatley 120,000 people over the the three days attended. The main arena was considerably smaller than the inner track, meaning the capacity would have been smaller than that of previous years.

In 2009 the site was again changed, and with this the capacity would rise again to allow approximatley 90,000 per day to attend. The overall figures for this year were close to 170,000 over the weekend.

The 2010 event was a record breaker, with the capacity raised with an expanded site layout, the site could now hold 110,000 people. Each of the days were well attended with the site touching close to Capacity on the Friday for AC/DC's set.

2011 - The site was taken back to its 2009 layout. The Attendance was well down on the previous years with approximatley 30,000 on the friday and 40-50,000 on the Saturday and Sunday. This being a result of the recession, counter attractions and the general quality of bands being booked.

The "new" layout

Was meant to, according to the editer, make the page tidier but it looks a mess. There was nothing wrong with the old style that had been used for many years. Request revert 109.158.249.182 (talk) 12:01, 18 May 2012 (UTC)

I see what the editor was going for, but I have to agree that the old layout was better. Mainly because it was clear who the Headliners were right away. However, I'll see what other editors think before reverting it myself, because I can see the benefit of the new layout and my dislike of it could simply be because I'm used to the old layout. At the moment I'm thinking revert, but I'll see what others think/how I feel once I've gotten a bit used to this layout. Anoldtreeok (talk) 03:15, 21 May 2012 (UTC)
Been thinking about it for the past few days, I think it's a better layout. My only problem is because of how other festival pages are designed I just naturally look at the top bold band names to see the headliners, so it's a bit confusing at first. But when you get used to it it is a better layout. Anoldtreeok (talk) 00:25, 26 May 2012 (UTC)

Thursday performances

Although not billed, it's a well known fact that bands are scheduled for the Thursday and have been consistent for the last 5 years is it now? would everyone else agree that they should be included in the tables?Yellowxander (talk) 22:39, 26 September 2012 (UTC)
