I read that the Wiblingen Abbey Library was one of the most beautiful libraries in the world. It did not disappoint. We did have to pay 4,50 euro each to see the museum and library (plus more if you want to take pictures, you do). We did not care for the museum but spent over an hour looking at all of the library. It was my favorite library we visited in Germany. Absolutely gorgeous! We also happened to visit on a Sunday and enjoyed hearing the bells and visiting the church. This is a must do in my book!
The Kloster Wiblingen is a gem. The Main library holds original manuscripts and the library itself if gorgeous with walls of mirrors and statues.
We enjoyed the library but nothing was in English and with us having to pay 9.50€ just to see the library was a little steep. The grounds don't have much to see and the church was occupied for a wedding, we managed to see it through a side door but overall it was a beautiful library and it was a nice day trip. Doesn't take more than 30 minutes to see the whole museum, library, and church- especially if you don't read German. :)
If in Ulm, take a bus out to Wiblingen to visit this monastery. Don't miss the library. Overly ornate-simply beautiful.
Wiblingen Abbey is stunning, and the library in particular is glorious - as impressive as St Gallen, but without all the tour groups. The museum rooms before you get to the library are fascinating too.
There's a park outside, with lawns and trees, where you can walk or just have a quiet rest afterwards
No problems getting there. Part of the Abbey is used by the university and you can get the bus. Or take a taxi. It's only a couple of miles from the station and it won't cost much.
