Hidden Valley is a secluded spot wedged between two mystical mountains rich in folklore. It is a place blessed with nature's invigorating gifts of water, flowers, trees, and inspiring scenery. Located some 75 kilometers South of Manila, the Valley brings refreshingly modern changes as well as quaint touch of the past. Hidden Valley Springs Resort is a mere one and a half hour drive from Manila, snaking to Calauan, via Alaminos, Laguna, just behind Mount Makiling. Its main feature is a body of waterfalls, natural spring and pools. Be ready to dip in the cool waters, constantly flowing from the mountaintop, said to be rainfall accumulated through the years. There is also a warm, natural spring pool and a soda pool.

We arrived shortly after 12 just in time for lunch on a Thursday. The food consisted of tasty Philippine entrees and desserts. The entrance fee is over 2500 PHP per person so it is not a cheap place to visit if there are a lot in your party. At the time we visited, their credit card system was not working so we had to come up with A LOT cash! Luckily we just had enough for all of us.

The pools are still beautiful and clean however the temperature is not as hot as I remember. I heard it was due to a new geothermal power plant that was installed in Laguna. The water is however still pristine and feels like you are bathing in bottled water. The foliage around the pools are still incredible - and old growth jungle which made you feel like you were in Jurassic Park. The very old giant tree is no longer and was toppled by a storm about a decade ago.

There are a total of 5 pools to choose from with the first being the warmest. Lover's pool is the furthest and most private, however also the coldest.

Past the last pool you can walk less than 10 minutes to a beautiful raging waterfall (highly recommended!). There is a guide that will help you down the steps to the falls - careful cause the rocks could be slippery... For those strong swimmers, you can swim to the waterfall and stand on a shelf to the left of the falls and have someone take some great pictures!

Save energy for the walk back to the restaurant to have your afternoon meal or 'merienda' before leaving. The meal includes Philippine delicacies, although I don’t think they serve the fresh cocoa hot chocolate anymore.

Overall, still as beautiful as I remember. Just wished the springs was still as hot as I remembered.

For me, the only chlorine-free pool resort I like going back every summertime because of its spring water, big old trees, fresh smell of leaves and flowers with lots of falls plus you don't get sunburned after swimming. What's exciting for me here in this place is the 15-min bamboo trek going to the "Hidden Falls". Buffet lunch and merienda were also good serving Filipino local dishes. Thank God for this! Thanks Mama and Papa, you brought us to this place when we were kids back then. And I will keep coming back here always as long as I have enough time. The BEST!

After so many years this resorts never fails to charm. It has still the beauty and serene of its surrounding natures. Spring water that runs down from the falls to the pool will relieve your stress thus makes you comfortable after.Day tour or overnight is a must to enjoy the day.

Bathe in natural spring pools, that's what you do in this resort. The setting is very natural, it feels like you're in the middle of the forest. If the weather is cold, you can enjoy the warm pools. If it's hot, go in the cooler pools.

For 2,500 pesos per person - you can bathe the whole day, with lunch and pm snacks included. The food is Filipino, not bad; but nothing to rave about.

Customer service in the front office is very stiff. We came with a 70 year old polio survivor, so we asked for a wheelchair. From the front office, the entrance to the pools would be a walk of around 300 meters. We were told that the two wheelchairs they have are occupied.

So we asked instead to allow us to drive past the barrier and bring our PWD closer to the pool. The front office person flatly and with finality said it's not allowed. So I said, "but we're requesting an exemption because you don't have a wheelchair". He was defensive and said, "We have 2 wheelchairs, but they are being used." "Exactly, I said, so can you please consider allowing us to drive her to the entrance of the pools?" No amount of pleading convinced Mr. Bien Estrella. I'm sure that it's their policy, but he could have asked us if we can wait while he checks if the wheelchair can be back soon, or something like that.

He didn't seem to care. His attitude was like "That's your problem. Not mine."

First, they only do reservations via Instagram. They gave me the total amount for overnight (23,900) which even with food is way overpriced for home cooked Filipino ulam. Anyway, apparently they overcharged me by 1,500 which I said was ok to deposit for incidentals. When we were checking out, that was the only time we were told that they have a no refund policy and they can't give back my deposit. No one informed me via IG and they didn't even give me an e reciept or reservation confirmation which they promised to send. People at the front desk are too pissed to accommodate you or they are either too busy with their phones. The view and the falls were nice but for the amount they charge, the service was really BAD.

This is a must-do experience if you are staying in Manila for more than a couple days. it's about a two hour ride from Manila, but once you get there you'll be glad you invested the time and money to get there. The whole area is imaculate and breathtakingly beautiful. Think tropical botanical gardens with warm springs. Please know that it's not a hot spring its a warm spring, but I promise you that you will LOVE it! There are several large pools to bath in, and all of them are scenic, clean, clear, and stunning! We spent several hours there, but wished we could stay longer. Be sure to make the hike out to the waterfall. It was beautiful, secluded, and the hike there took us through an impressive natual rainforest with giant trees. Your entrance fee includes a wonderul lunch and a snack later in the day. Hidden Valley Springs is such a wonderul respite from the crazy hustle and bustle of Manila that it would be a shame to miss out on it!!

Clean, simple and ok buffet, nice and clean toilet and shower facilities. Staff are polite and helpful. Signs for pools needs re-painting so it's clear, we lost our way as the arrows were faded. Tranquil. We visited on a weekday so it's less crowded. One of the staff in the buffet speaks Korean and Japanese, very impressive.

We really enjoyed our visit to Hidden Valley. It was like a tropical paradise! The natural warm springs were so relaxing and invigorating. The hiking paths were clearly marked, except for the last part towards the waterfalls. The changing rooms were modern and clean. The food was good and the staff were attentive. The entrance fee is a bit steep but it might be why it wasn't crowded (aside from the fact that we came in the middle of the week), which was a big plus. Definitely worth the trip!

I've been coming to this place for years and it had been a great experience but this weekend was a nightmare! I paid 63,700 pesos for two nights for 6 adults 3 kids and expected to get a great treament and got a horrible service! This people are so strict on swim attire that they yell at you if you're wearing anything else but when we got there was no lifeguard on duty and no one to inforce the swimming attire because they went to lunch! From my understanding with the rules and the law that there should always be a lifeguard on duty and they failed! When night time for dinner they try to sit us on a table for six, after they realized that we needed a table for nine they told us to just get the plates from other tables and go ahead to the buffett while they set up our table! Do you all know how embarassing it is to go from one table to another so you can set up your own? They should of set us aside while they setup our table and this was suppose to be a fine dinning?!!!! When we sat down the silverware wasn't enough for nine people, we were using teaspoon, sharing the water amongs us, no napkins, glasses or even forks! Our chairs were soaking wet from the rain which they didn't bother to dry before we sat down! The floor was infested with ants and we all got bit and to mention wildcats under your table begging for food! I was so dissapointed of how this people treated us and consider of how much I tip this people and anyone that comes near me! Imagine how the staff and even the owner knows me and how many millions i've spent at this place- so i wonder how they treat other guest! When i tried to make a complaint and asked for the manager, there was none and the supervisor denied that he was incharge! I went up to the front desk and told him that we would be checking out in the morning and that I wanted half of my money back but they said that they couldn't make that decision until they spoke to someone incharge which they could not tell me WHO! This people treat their guest like garbage because the management treat their workers the same! Like I said i've been coming to Hidden Valley for years and the employees would tell me stories that they only make 230.00 pesos ($5.30) for 16hrs a day, that they can't go home to their families and have to stay to this horrible place and can only go home once or twice a month and if caught leaving the property that they would get a fine worth a week's pay, this guy Carding have been there for 40 years and when he retired he only received sixty thousand pesos for his fine service and loyalty to this place! No wonder why the employees treat their guest like crap! I could sit here and tell you stories of how this place isn't as great as you think but Hidden Valley has to do some major changes before I return again which I truly doubt it! That's the last dollar i will ever spend at this place!!!!!!!!!

This is not my first time to visit this resort. My first visit was 6 years ago for a day trip and this visit is for overnight. Hidden Valley Springs is a unique resort featuring natural spring water pools nestled in the midst of a lush forest of tropical trees and flowering plants. I won’t focus on the pools as the pictures posted in the reviews here will already give you an idea of how beautiful the pools are but I have to say that I am quite disappointed that there have not been any improvements from the last time I’ve visited.

The resort still does not have its own website. I booked directly with the resort with the contact details provided by in a travel blog. The reservations agents although friendly, lacked efficiency. They do not respond to emails. They hardly reply to text messages. I could imagine how hard it would be if you were going to book with them directly from overseas.

The shower rooms that were bearable 6 years ago should have been renovated by now. I’ve noticed that the number of guests have increased this time (mainly locals when we visited) so additional shower cubicles or a bigger shower room area should be considered.

The food was mainly Filipino fare. Lunch was served in the roofed buffet area. I agree with a previous post in that if they are focusing on Filipino food then “a truly impressive taste sampling of Philippine cuisine's finest” should be presented. Offered were: a mini salad bar, a buffet with about 5-6 main viands (pork, chicken, fish, vegetable, noodle dish), dessert choices exactly the same as mentioned by previous poster (chopped fruits, kaong - , gelatin) and sago’t gulaman (local sweetened drink with tapioca-like pearls). Coffee (local barako) and tea were always offered in the dining area (lunch, merienda/snack, dinner, breakfast). Merienda or snack was pretty bad. They served lomi (local noodle soup) that was too starchy and didn’t have anything in it but noodles and a few chopped veggies. They served the worst ginataang halo-halo (sweet stew of root crops and fruit cooked in coconut milk) I’ve tasted. Along with the two main merienda offerings were various kakanin / sticky rice cakes. It’s not advisable to eat rice cakes on an empty stomach especially when you are famished after an entire afternoon of swimming. It will clog your system! So my nephew who we failed to keep an eye on during merienda time fell ill after consuming rice cakes when he got really hungry during snack time. He missed dinner and threw up 3 times that night. Dinner was a tad better as they had a roast beef carving station added to the selection... which wasn’t so bad. We saw the chicken and fish dish they served during lunch again during dinner. They added a bit more dessert choices (leche flan - local flan, pineapple upside down cake, banana bread, cassava cake). Breakfast was my favorite but again they offered mainly Filipino breakfast choices (steamed daing na bangus - milkfish which was very fresh, longganisa - local sausage, beef tapa, pork tocino, homemade corned beef and super crispy bacon. They had an egg/omelette + waffle station which was a big plus. 2 choices of juice, a cold pitcher of milk and fresh slices of fruits were available. Again, you could always find coffee and tea when you dine and not to forget, the same mini salad bar choices (lettuce, cold macaroni salad/potato salad, tomatoes, raddish and 3 kinds of dressing).

We booked both the casita with loft and the regular casita for our overnight stay. The rooms had a nice rustic touch and I wouldn’t say would need much updating. My favorite part of the rooms would be the bath with the skylight and rain shower. The casita with loft came with 2 single beds in the loft and a king bed and could easily fit another rollaway bed as was provided for us at no extra charge. The regular casita came with a queen bed. (No minibar or ref. No coffee or tea facility. No free internet. No hairdryer. No in room safe. It had: 2 robes and 2 slippers; shampoo, soap, shower cap, shave kit; water thermos) Room had a small old (picture tube) TV with cable (Cignal). Rooms had split type air conditioning which cooled the room adequately (2 units for the casita with loft). My only complaint for the rooms was the beddings. I noticed some blotches on the bed which I thought were only light stains on the sheets that wouldn’t come off but when I looked closely in the morning, it was because of a super dirty mattress protector under the sheet that looked like it wasn’t changed for ages! (ewwwww!!!!) I’m not really a clean freak but that was just disgusting. The single beds in the loft only had light thin flat sheets for blankets.

The entire staff was generally very warm and friendly. Housekeeping knocked the next morning to check if we needed any more toiletries or towels. We appreciated the service and hospitality.

They do not allow food and drinks into the resort but they allow water to be brought in. (Note: They don’t really check so I guess a few cookies and chips for the kids won’t hurt :-) ). We brought our water canisters with us and refilled it with water at the reception or in the dining areas. If you have kids with you, it’s better if you bring your floatation vests for them as most of the pools are deep. Aqua shoes are a good idea because I’ve seen 2 kids lose their slippers in water streams. Check in / out time is at an odd 3:00PM /12:00NN but they will give you the room early if available as they did when we inquired about availability after lunch and will allow an extension of a few minutes for check out. Trek to the hidden falls is ok. Not for the elderly with mobility issues but can be easily handled by a 5 year old.

Rates: P2,200 for day trippers with lunch and snack. Locker rooms are available for free but with P500 deposit. Gazebos for day trippers are free of charge but on first come, first serve basis. Casita with loft starts at P17,000 a night (depending on the number of pax/ adults / children). Regular casita starts at P12,500 a night. Overnight rates/room come with full board meals (lunch/snack/dinner/breakfast)

Directions: From Manila, take South Luzon Expressway. Continue on to Star Tollway (You will pass a second toll plaza). Exit Sto.Tomas (first exit after Star Tollway) and turn right along the National Highway. Veer left when you see the Junction Inn Mansion. After Liana's Supermarket on your right there will be a "Y" intersection, take the left lane towards the Isuzu dealership. Continue on to Alaminos. If the road forks, keep right on the main road with the traffic. If you pass 7/11 (on right) and Mercury drugstore (on left) across each other then start watching out for the Rural Bank of Alaminos (with UCPB Bank of the right) to which you will take a left. From there, just follow the signs to Hidden Valley which shouldn’t be far away by then.

Sorry for the lengthy review. Most reviews are not for overnighters so I went all out on my review. In conclusion, even after the horrifying discovery on the bed, I would still consider coming back to the resort. The resort itself is a unique and pleasant experience. I hope the resort owners/ managers will not continue to leave the resort out to neglect. I would not even mind paying for the hefty rates especially if there are improvements on the food and the facilities.
