We have strong partnerships with districts across Oregon to support teachers in earning an ESOL endorsement or Dual Language specialization.

Many school districts provide tuition reimbursement that can help you earn an ESOL endorsement or Dual Language specialization. Contact your distirct's Human Resources department to learn if this might be an option for you.

Our Dual Language specialization program includes two courses taught bilingually in Spanish and English, providing opportunities for bilingual teachers to build their own language skills.

OSU's ESOL and Dual Language program is nationally recognized and has received grants totaling more than $5 million since 2016 to support teachers in earning an ESOL endorsement and/or Dual Language specialization.

An evaluation of OSU's ESOL endorsement and Dual Language specialization programs found that students taught by teachers who had completed the programs showed higher academic growth.

What to Expect

All coursework for the ESOL and Dual Language Graduate Certificates is fully online. Courses are asynchronous so you do not need to log in to classes at a specific time each week. Classes incorporate many opportunities for engagement via online discussions and peer feedback. Assignments include direct applications to your classroom.

Teachers completing the ESOL Graduate Certificate do not need to be bilingual. Teachers completing the Dual Language specialization must be fluent in Spanish because two courses are taught bilingually in Spanish and English. If you speak a language other than Spanish, you can complete the ESOL Graduate Certificate.

The ESOL and Dual Language Graduate Certificates share four courses. However, some courses in the programs are distinct. Specifically, the Dual Language specialization includes two courses taught bilingually in Spanish and English. All courses for the ESOL endorsement are taught in English. Both programs end with an internship course in which you implement strategies you've learned throughout the program in your own classroom.
