Hal Jordan is gearing up to resume his Green Lantern duties in a brand-new title. As part of Dawn of DC lineup, Jordan is heading back to the spotlight to confront one of his oldest and most bitter enemies.

With the terrifying events of Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths behind them, it's a new age for the DC Universe, and time for light to shine once again. As part of the upcoming slate of titles for the Dawn of DC initiative, Hal Jordan, the first human to be inducted into the Green Lantern Corps, is headlining a new series. Green Lantern will be written by Jeremy Adams (Dark Crisis: War Zone, The Flash) with art by Xermánico (Justice League, Wonder Woman), who are replacing the previously announced Mariko Tamiki and TBA artist. The new series sees Hal Jordan's beat of Sector 2814 quarantined by the Green Lantern Corps' Guardians. After a humbling defeat and nowhere else to go, Jordan goes on a mission to track down the man responsible for his suffering: His old mentor and nemesis, Sinestro. Green Lantern #1 will also contain part one of Green Lantern John Stewart's new adventure by Philip Kennedy Johnson and Osvaldo Montos.

Hal Jordan Is Back As Green Lantern After A Long AbsenceGreen Lantern Cover B DC Comics

The Green Lanterns have been through some changes in the last several years, as they've only recently overcome the destruction of their Corps. And like every other hero in the DC Universe, the Lanterns were pushed to their limits fighting back the evil forces of Pariah and the Dark Army. But the heroes survived the event and have the opportunity for a fresh start. Hal Jordan's been busy with his missions in deep space, but by the sounds of things, he's about to be indefinitely grounded.

While Hal loves his hometown of Coast City, flying is the one thing Green Lantern really loves, especially when he's traversing entire galaxies in the span of minutes. But Adams' and Xermánico's new series looks to clip Jordan's wings a bit and bring him back down to Earth, quite literally. It's not his preferred domain, but maybe it's the most needed one for his character, especially since the hero is about to face off with the man who made him the Lantern Hal is today.

The Dawn of DC serves to create new jumping on points for both new and classic readers. A story in which one of the greatest Green Lanterns ever to wield a Power Ring is trapped on Earth is a smart way to explore what really makes the hero tick. Not to mention, putting him in the crosshairs of Sinestro will bring everyone up to speed on the contentious relationship between the two. Fans eager to check out the new adventures of Hal Jordan and see what his confrontation with his old mentor will bring should keep their eyes peeled for Green Lantern #1, available May 9, 2023.
