'When you bring your mate to 5-a-side but forget how bad he is': X Factor viewers cringe as Olly Murs' old pal Jon Goodey is rejected by all four judges at the auditions

Olly Murs may be the new co-host of the X Factor, but being his old pal won't help you win the talent show.

That's exactly what Jon Goodey found on Saturday night when he was shot down by all four judges during the early auditions for the show.

Viewers of the returning talent competition cringed as the hopeful - who was previously in a band with international star Olly - was told he might just be remembered as 'Olly's friend'.

Panelists Simon Cowell, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, Rita Ora and Nick Grimshaw looked uncomfortable as they had to deliver their less-than-positive reviews of his performance while his presenter friend looked on in disbelief on Saturday.

'I hate that I even have to comment on this,' began Rita. ;What will I remember about this audition? I don't think I will remember this audition.'

'I think there's a reason you were in a band and you're not now,' Simon told him.

'I actually think that you sang very well but I think, unfortunately, you will be remembered as Olly's duo friend,' Cheryl concluded candidly.

Head in his hands, Olly looked visibly devastated for his friend, and later took to Twitter to say: 'Seeing my mate get them 4 no's was awful! Not nice.. 

'I really thought he deserved to get a break! His a great guy & great dad! Gutted..'

And the rest of the viewing public were evidently watching from behind their sofas, and reacted with a mixture of empathy and hilarity.

While another commented: 'Olly Murs just fully mugged off his mate on national television #goingthedistance' 

Others found in favour of Jon's singing talent and took the time to call out the judging panel for making an object of Olly's close pal.

'I think it's extremely harsh how xfactor set @jongoodey up to fail. Personally I loved it! Very easy to listen to!' said one viewer.
