The X Factor: Olly Murs and Caroline Flack to host - it's official

The worst-kept secret in television is officially confirmed.

It's official - Olly Murs and Caroline Flack have signed up to host The X Factor.

Murs and Flack - who were linked to the job almost as soon as Dermot O'Leary announced his exit - have now been named by ITV as the first duo to present the hit show.

The pair previously hosted sister show The Xtra Factor on ITV2, while for a brief period Flack appeared backstage at the live shows speaking to the contestants.

Now, they'll be together for the audition process and will attempt to keep the judges and contestants under control when the live shows kick off.

"I'm incredibly excited and proud to be returning to The X Factor alongside Caroline," Murs said. "I love the show and it kick-started my career in music which has given me the opportunity to do what I love. I already have the best job in the world and it's about to get better - I can't wait to get started and be part of finding some amazing new talent!"

Flack added: "I'm beyond excited about presenting The X Factor with Olly. To have the privilege of doing this with someone who makes me laugh out loud is a massive bonus! I'm also incredibly lucky to have the best tips and support from my showbiz big brother Dermot. I'm not sure how I can live up to his long-term residency, but I know I can't let him down!"

Simon Cowell also revealed that he's "delighted" about Flack and Murs hosting the show, saying: "When they were on Xtra together, they were a brilliant double act. Since then, Caroline's gone from strength to strength – and Olly has become one of Britain's biggest stars. So now I'm looking forward to them fronting the main show."

Murs - who shot to fame on the sixth series of The X Factor in 2009 - hadn't really attempted to hide his new job and even made the legendary X sign at one of his concerts recently.

Caroline Flack is confirmed for Strictly Come Dancing

Meanwhile, Flack is about to have a busy year as just yesterday she was confirmed as the host of ITV2's revamped Love Island.

Further details about this year's series of The X Factor - including details of the judging panel - will be "announced in due course", according to ITV.

Louis Walsh has already hinted that he may not return - although he has made similar comments in previous years - while conflicting reports about Cheryl Fernandez-Versini's future on the show have also emerged.

Meanwhile, some rumours have claimed that Cowell is hoping to lure Rita Ora away from The Voice UK.

The X Factor will return in the autumn, and open auditions are currently underway.
