Jackie Gaughan, Jr Dead at 54

LAS VEGAS -- John "Jackie" Gaughan, Jr., casino executive and the son of Las Vegas casino pioneer Jackie Gaughan and brother of Coast Casinos Chairman Michael Gaughan, died Sunday in Las Vegas.

Gaughan was known as "Jackie, Jr." He was 54, and left his wife, Tina; children John, Billie and Kelly; as well as his father and brother.

Gaughan was the general manager of the Union Plaza hotel-casino, now the Plaza, one of his father's downtown properties.

Born in Omaha, Neb., on Nov. 24, 1947, Gaughan moved to Las Vegas with his family when he was a small child.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.

Visitation is slated to be held from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Palm Mortuary-Downtown. Services are scheduled for 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Palm Mortuary-Downtown and 10:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Viator's Catholic Church, 2461 E. Flamingo Road.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to Bishop Gorman High School.
