First time watching farscape and scorpius is one of the best antagonists I've ever met!

As I mentioned before this is my first watch through and I am only at episode 4.20 but I feel the urge to tell other people my opinion.

I'm pretty sure that this was posted long before but I just wanted to point out that Scorpius is one of the best written villains in all of Sci fi history and I didn't even see the Finale.

So pls keep your comments to episode 4.20 if it's possible. Thx.

Scorpius cooling suit with this disgusting mechanical device in his head that keeps him alive and that his subordinates have to change every couple arns so that he doesn't die is so disturbing, ugly and terrifying at the same time that in my opinion he even rivals Darth Vader.

Other than that his psychological influence on the protagonist John Chriton is so remarkable and important that I sometimes caught my self thinking that scorpius is the main character of the story.

Wait until you meet Harvey.

I'm at episode 4.20. I already met Harvey. The interaction between him and Chriton is so entertaining and most of the time hilarious.

Ka Dargo even meets Harvey.

Just wait till you get to the “Harvey and John’s wormhole weapon to the stars!” bit. 😜

Aside from those my favorite Harvey bits are when he’s a small time crook and Crichton is a detective. Or when they both are cops!

I’d like to hang out with him and have pizza and margarita shooters!

With Scorpius or Harvey? In both ways it sounds insane to me. Scorpius would let u sit in an aurora chair and Harvey would just talk u into insanity.

Haha. Harvey yeah.
🤪 thats all folks

Well, just my thought. Hope their are others that gave different opinions.

Your right tho. Just like a damn crazy cartoon. Hahaha

I would argue that while Scorpius is definitely an antagonist, you should consider whether or not he's actually a villain as you watch the rest of the season 4 and mini-series. I think that in Scorpius' mind, the Scarran threat is so dire that stopping them justifies the use of any means necessary. As a result, I think the question of whether and how much of a 'villain' he is depends to a large extent on how much you agree with his assessment of the Scarran threat.

Yup, that’s why I wrote whether he really is a villain in an earlier post.

Towards the end of season 4, what are John’s primary motivation? Basically staying alive and being left alone.

What’s Scorpius’s motivation? A higher purpose: Stopping the Scarran threat.

Depending on how you see things, that would make Scorpius more of a hero than John is at that point in time/in the show.

Anyways, as JMS once said: Every villain is the hero in their own mind.

And Scorpius, like the antagonists in B5 is a formidably written antagonist. Who start out as a clear villain, but whose motivations and goals become more understandable and agreeable with time.

Even Scorpius use of the Aurora chair on Stark looks different when the context changes from “He just wanted to crush him” to “He wanted to know about the Scarran threat.”

I partially agree with u when it comes to his history with the scarrans but to me he is definitely a villain/ antagonist because he has killed so many people. The greater good as he mentions many times doesn't count to me. He doesn't cares about other life's and he doesn't even cares about his own life . All he wants is revenge.

Scorpius certainly wants revenge, but when Scorpius shares his memories with the clone of John in the chip, he also shows that he believes that the Scarrans have decided to exterminate the Sebacean race (as the Scarrans enslave or exterminate all other sentient life they encounter). Scorpius appears to really believe that the lives of millions or even billions of Sebaceans are on the line, and he justifies all his actions on that basis.

To me, that makes him qualitatively different than someone like early Crais or Commandant Grayza, who act primarily out of selfish desire for personal revenge or personal career advancement without caring at all about the cost and consequences for others.

Scorpius appears to really believe that his actions are necessary to serve a greater good, and I think that makes him much more debatable as a villain than any of the other main antagonists in the series.

That doesn't mean that I don't think good arguments can be made that he is a villain (particularly if you don't agree with his assessment of the Scarran threat and/or you don't believe the ends can justify the means), just that I think it should be a question to be debated rather than an assumption.

How many people did John and Aeryn kill along the way?

How many people did the wormhole weapon kill?

John and Scorpius ultimately aren’t that different. They both want “the greater good” but Scorpius is more resolute and realistic.

You could even make the argument that Scorpius is more of a “hero” than John in season 4. While John wants peace and quiet for himself and is tired of fighting, Scorpius is still determined to make a difference and prevent the Scarrans from taking over.

John ultimately comes around, since that’s what heroes do.

But they’re not that different from each other. More like two sides of the same coin. As demonstrated by all the scenes where Harvey and John are in opposite sides of the table.

Exactly. To me, one of the most fascinating themes of Farscape is the relationship between Scorpius and John. I think they both recognize on some level they are not that different, it's just that while Scorpius is entirely comfortable with this fact, it makes John extremely uncomfortable. John is very uncomfortable with what he's capable of when push comes to shove, and Scorpius can't help but remind him of that.

So you would like to test your limits?

"c'mon Scorpy! Flip me over and baste the other side! This one is getting crispy!"

Paraphrased, of course.

Scorpius is the best villain. Full stop.

Second is probably Ra’s al Ghul, then Bester from Babylon 5.

Do u mean Ras al Ghul from Batman? I don't know if he is better in the comics but in the movie he is just alright.

Bester from B5 is also a great antagonist but for me he never lost the real villain side. Even though he talks about his family and so on.

Definitely the comics. Like Scorpy he’s in pursuit of a noble goal (stop humans from destroying everything) but is so ruthless that sometimes the cure is worse than the disease. And the mutual respect is always fun!

Wait, humans? Is this above 4.20 or did I miss something? Always thought that Scorpius wants revenge on the Scarrans.

I meant Ra’s has the goal of reducing the numbers and spread of humanity. Scorpy is definitely all about the Horseheads.

I don’t think it’s just revenge.

That’s part of it, but he’s also aware of their nature and what a Galaxy enslaved by them would look like.

Bester is a lot more sympathetic when you consider how telepaths are treated and live.

Tolerated, but forever mistrusted because of their nature.

Bester wanted what was best for his people and would gladly have given his life for that higher cause.

Teeps were often persecuted before the psy-corps and as we saw in later episodes of B5, there were people who’d gladly enslave or kill them all.

Bester is def on my top 5 list of all time best antagonists, and Koenig was amazing in his portrayal of him.

Long been my fav

Yeah, he is everything in one character, an antagonist, a villain, a companion, a spy, a monster....

Is he really a villain though?

Yeah he does some fahrbot things, but not for his pleasure or sadism but to avoid a greater evil.

Is that so different from when John and Aeryn occasionally kill?

And yeah, he’s an awesome character, as was Crais.

Harvey and John scenes are always awesome!

Yah scorpi is the best

Peak Scorpius:

You've cost me much. And I do not suffer disappointment well.

I condemn you, John Crichton - to live!

So that your thirst for unfulfilled revenge - will consume you.

That last bit delivered with such venom.

I'm glad you said Antagonist and not Villain. I never saw Scorpius as a villain, mainly because I believe he felt what he was doing was for the greater good, but his methods were somewhat questionable. He was such a greatly written character, but that was par for the course of Farscape.

Well since this post is 11 months old i'll have to assume I won't be spoiling anything but i'll keep things based on vague opinion anyways. I wish John would treat Scorpius nicer despite any crappy motives he may have he puts his life on the line and seems to be genuine one of those "Integrity" based Anti-Villain Types?

Of course I know this show is long dead and over but still I can't help but wish that Scorpius would be an accepted part of the crew as a friend, Though due to his incredible capability and cool head he would be too great of an asset I suppose.

P.S: any arguments about Scorpius past misdeeds think back to everyone part of the Moya crew from the start they have all done some pretty messed up stuff imo.
