Editorial Reviews

Starred Review: "Author Terreece M. Clarke introduces us to Olivia in her children's picture book titled Olivia's Potty Adventures! Olivia is somewhere between the ages of 2 and 3 and is trying to learn how to use the bathroom and when is the right time to do so.
The first half of the book, Olivia is so engrossed in her playtime and make-believe that she makes quite a few unfortunate messes! There's no time to stop when the 2 1/2-year-old imagination is at work. Thankfully, Olivia eventually learns how to recognize that "feeling" and learns how to pause her playtime to make a quick break to the bathroom. In the end, she is victorious learning how to survive without her diapers.

Olivia's Potty Adventures! is such a great book for small children who are having difficulty with timing. The art in Terreece M. Clarke's book is fun, adorable, and endearing as children will connect to Olivia right away and be transported under the sea, into outer space, and more while following our little heroine into her imagination. And the rhyming scheme is fun and upbeat. I did feel grossed out by the mentions of urine and some urine-filled art, but there are some things you can't avoid discussing when you're trying to teach such an important lesson to a young child. I highly recommend this picture book and think it will make a great addition to any young reader's library."

Olivia's Potty Adventures is a fabulous addition to every child's potty book library or bathroom book basket.
It engages young readers, and their parents, in playful potty understanding from readiness to developmental skill-building. It builds body awareness across different situations, teaches personal responsibility through age-appropriate problem solving, and thankfully, makes mistakes and accidents part of the learning process. Love this book! Bravo!!!

Olivia's Potty Adventures! is a whimsical, rhyming picture book that celebrates the childhood triumph of learning to know when to go.
The world of Olivia's imagination is as big and boundless as it is colorful and cute. I often found myself smiling at the images of her taking breaks in the midst of her adventures and loved seeing the bold and empowered stance Olivia takes even in the world of pretend.
I think kids will love reading this alone or with their parents and will enjoy all the delightful details in each and every illustration. Children of color will especially love seeing themselves mirrored in the main character.

A fun, entertaining look at the adventure of toilet training that reflects as many sides of the child as there are personalities of children conquering this milestone of development! Parents, enjoy the journey with them!

From the Author

What a fun journey this has been writing and bringing Olivia's Potty Adventures to life! When I was toilet training my own children I not only focused on techniques like potty training in a week, but potty training storybooks that my own little ones would be interested in reading. What I found was a profound lack of diverse characters in potty training books.

The #WeNeedDiverseBooks movement and social media campaigns like it has made significant inroads in shining a light on the need for multicultural children's books.

Thinking back on my first child's experience I remember how hard it was to get my own Olivia to stop and recognize the physical signs of needing to go to the potty. "Olivia is 2 or maybe 3 and she's learning how to hold her pee" popped in my head and from there the book was formed.
I am so grateful to Cedar Grove Publishing for seeing the need and potential for Olivia's Potty Adventures and to Seitu Hayden's brilliant art. I cried when I saw the completed book it was so spot on. He took my notes outlining the vision I had for each page and made it my vision but BETTER.
