Since this is far from the first Bachelor break-up, there's already protocol for what happens to the custom Neil Lane engagement jewels.

The show gives former fiances a brief time window for the ring to be returned to ABC's producers. After that, the sparkler is given back to jeweler Neil Lane.

It might be hard for the season 20 winner to give back though - the dazzling 4.25 carat, platinum square-cut and halo-style ring was reportedly the biggest Bachelor bling to date.

The couple's fairy-tale romance began when they were engaged during the season finale of Bachelor's 20th season, but from the beginning of their union there were signs of unrest.

Higgins, 29, caused controversy during the final episodes of the ABC reality show when he told two of his finalists - Bushnell and JoJo Fletcher - that he loved them during the Fantasy Suites episode.

He ultimately picked Bushnell who expressed after the show aired how difficult it was for her to see her fiance express his feelings for another woman.
