Wes Ball's Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is shaping up to have an exciting and talented cast. Continuing the universe that was set out in Matt Reeves’ original cinematic trilogy, the new Planet of the Apes installment will act as a sequel to those earlier films even though its story will follow mostly new characters and different plot lines. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will be directed by Wes Ball (The Maze Runner trilogy) and written by Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, and Patrick Aison. It is currently expected to be released on May 10, 2024.

Reeves’ original Planet of the Apes trilogy chronicled the ongoing battle between humans and apes over control of the planet. It followed the apes’ leader Caesar as he fought the oppressive humans to protect his species and their homes. Though Ball’s upcoming sequel will tell a different story, the events of Reeves’ trilogy will strongly influence the universe in which it takes place. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will take place many years after the reign of Caeser and is poised to set up a new leg of the franchise's expansion into the 2020s.
