Family of four, 2 teenagers who have never tried skiing. Looking ahead and wondering thoughts on a new ski trip (coming from Australia).

Budget is not a constraint - looking for recommendations Whistler Blackbomb or any other suggestions for beginners. Also after accommodation/resorts suggestions.

TIA

Most ski resorts in BC close after about April 10 so Whistler is about it. Be ready for spring conditions: icy in the morning, slushy in the afternoon.

Check out the following link to give you an idea of when most resorts close. Of course, no one can predict snow conditions for 2019.

Easter 2019 is late (April 21), so assuming usual snow, many areas will stay open at least til then. Whistler-Blackcomb will stay open into May.

We often go to Whistler in April (first 2 weeks) and skiing is great. The bottom of the mountain might be slushy or even closed but you ski at the top so no worry. Strongly suggest you sign up at the Whistler web site for their specials and promotions. You will find that sometime in the summer, they will have good promotions on.

The only other area I would suggest is Lac Louise in Alberta.

So, if the bottom of the mountain is closed, do they still have green slopes open higher up the mountain in April? Also, where should beginner skiers stay for ski in/ski out? TIA!

Yes, green runs exist up and down the entirety of Whistler. That won’t be an issue.

In April it would be touch and go for ski-in/out dependent on the weather. I have been several times in April and some have been able to ski in and out on some of those years. If not then you take the gondola down and walk to your location.

April can still have good conditions but if its a bad year and you want ski in/ out I would recommend going early if you can. Feb through to march have good base cover and it only really starts to warm up in the village around the end of march so the ski out should still be intact. If you are happy gambling on the ski out and can put up taking the gondola to mid station then April is fine. Most of the good runs including green are on the top half anyway!

The Peak to Peak will be closed for maintenance between approx April 21 and May 26 when it opens for summer tourist season. Around that time, there is a period of a few weeks when it is only open on the weekends. WB hours of operation are only for the present tourist season so can't see the hours for next April. The P2P is an attraction that many people like to take.
