Popped in here for a family lunch on a wet day and the quality of the food was very good and fairly priced. The pan fried plaice was as wonderfully cooked as I’ve had in many a day. The portion size was very big and...it tasted delicious. My wife said her chicken was beautiful. Both meals were served with freshly cooked veg and potatoes that were clearly not under some heater all day. The kids had lasagne and it again was fresh and hot. The staff could have been a little friendlier so I docked 1 star for that but I’d certainly go back.More

My partner and I called into the Snug for dinner earlier this evening along with our Dalmatian puppy as we travelled back to Kerry. The primary reason for visiting this establishment was, admittedly, the fact that it is pet-friendly although we did not spot any...other pets at the time of our visit. Upon entry we were politely attended to by staff who initially brought us to a small table before kindly moving us (before ordering) to an enclosed snug which would offer greater comfort to our dog and ensure he would not interfere with other customers. The layout and ambience within the bar/restaurant itself is also very good. The staff were very polite and attentive. They were very interested with our puppy and even provided us with a small bowl for water. Most importantly the food was absolutely delicious with my partner ordering a rib-eye steak which tasted superb and my beef burger equally as good. Overall the Snug rates very highly, primarily due to the quality of food and kindness of the staff who really added to the experience. This will be a very fond memory of our travels around Munster.More

I booked the Snug for six people on Saturday 1st August after having booked a table for two the night before. On the first evening the meal was excellent, though the drinks service was slow. On the Saturday , our booking was for 9pm. We...arrived on time and were asked to wait as our table was not ready. The older lady showed us to our table and when we asked if we could order a drink, we were told quite curtly that we would have to order our food first as they were running behind and had to get the order to the kitchen, I'd like to add that we were there on time for our booking!!! Two of us ordered the monk fish which my partner had the previous night, he had got new boiled potatoes in their jackets and when ours arrived, it was mash potatoes that were dry and luke warm. The whole experience was very rushed and lounge staff came over a number of times trying to lift plates when some of our party were still eating. On the third attempt two lounge men came to clear the table and the bar man slammed the receipt on the table for us to finish up. We all found it an utter disgrace and really if you take a booking for 9pm you should offer your customers a relaxed atmosphere and allow them their 105 minutes, which is the Government guidelines for restaurants.More

There were three vegetarian options(stir fry, mushroom pasta, lasagne) and I would have liked more options. Food was okay, not anything special, and the roasted veg was a bit burned and dried out. I was not at all impressed with the 'efforts' to keep customers...safe during a pandemic. The waiters all had either masks or visors on, but a lot of them had the visors turned up amd came far too close to the tables so that I was literally sitting under them, not protected at all as I looked up to their mouth and nose. It made me extremely uncomfortable. The tables were also not all 2 metres apart and I found myself trying to scooch away from adjacent customers. There were also lots of customers huddled at the front door so that we had to squeeze past them to exit the restaurant, only centimetres away from each other. I didn't enjoy my visit at all because of the lack of social distancing and laziness in the effort to keep customers safe.More

Called in to the Snug in Bantry Town with an expectation to receive reasonable enough food. In hindsight we should have kept walking and not went in at all. Ordered fish, chips, salad. Nothing delightful about it. Fish was coujons and deep batter tasted more...from the freezer in Aldi. Chips were frozen ones too. With a coca -cola price came in around €25. Overpriced, and tasteless. Repeated on me for the whole evening despite removing all the batter. We were asked for covid certs before being seated for indoor dining and tables were wiped down. Toilets looked newly refurbished and regularly cleaned. Food and our visit very disappointing. Not in a hurry to make a return.More

We stopped here for a bite to eat on the way home from BarleyCove. My wife had the fish-pie which was lovely, two of us had had the cod gougons which unfortunately were not homemade (At 18.5E each, I would have excepted them to be...fresh from the sea) and neither was the burger. The chips were just frozen chips. Overall, it was OK , sadly not great..More

We had lunch and dinner here recently as a lot of places were closed due to flooding and found it to be both good and bad. Lunch was OK, I had chicken wings which were fine but bland enough, son (13) had lasagne which he...said was pretty good. Service would be best described as sporadic but an older woman who was quite nice. For dinner I had the John Dory, which was outstanding, the nicest fish I've had in some time, my partner had a crab salad which was only OK, crab was very nice, the salad was an after thought. Son had Chicken Wings which he didn't like. Service in the evening was even more sporadic and not as pleasant, we seemed to be an inconvenience to him. They seated the three of us at a table that was all in a row, facing the people across the floor from us who were also sitting in a row, it was very odd and uncomfortable.More

Six of us had two meals in The Snug over the course of the bank holiday weekend, it’s a really tough period for them with all the covid restrictions but we had a wonderful time. The food was delicious and Paddy was super, he looked...after us superbly and was really attentive and apologetic due to the unusual limitations. We would thoroughly recommend this restaurant both for the lovely meals but also the very friendly staff. Added to a great holiday in Bantry.More

Food was lovely. Ordered the prawn salad. The bread that came with it was amazing. Male waiter who sat us at the table was lovely as were all the younger staff. Two older waitresses were a bit abrupt and made us feel slightly uncomfortable when...we asked for anything. Overall a good experience.More

Fantastic meal! Covid procedures really well adhered to, contact tracing system in place, and outdoor seating for those who wish. We arrived to town the day Bantry had been hit by serious flooding and were amazed that the Snug was not only up & running,...but they appeared to be business as usual. Phenomenal team! We ordered deep fried brie to start, followed by a burger and pan fried turbot. The turbot was simply superb! Next time we’ll forego a starter to leave room for dessert :-) Can’t wait to return, will definitely recommend.More

When you head out for a meal with friends you hope for a great meal with great service. We had that and more. We had eaten in the snug before and had a great experience so were delighted to book again. We drove into Bantry...from about 10 miles away with the thought of leaving the car and getting a cab home. We were seated upstairs in the newer part of the restaurant. The interior is fantastic with wonderful atmospheric lighting. The menu is a real bonus for anyone into seafood but there is something for everyone. We shared duck wings for a starter which were delicious and a nice change from the usual chicken wings. 3 out of our group of 4 had the turbot with prawn as the main course. Absolutely delicious with lovely veg and mashed potatoes. I had an irish coffee (top class) and sticky toffee pudding for desert. By the end of the meal we were all in agreement that every part of the evening, service, food and setting were of the highest standard. Only one problem, we couldnt get a taxi and were stranded. One of the members of staff phoned any taxi contacts he knew but to no avail. Disaster. As we sat wondering what our options were, the Snug raised their game even more and Maurice, the owner/resident chef offered to drive us home, What can I say? A 45 minute round trip at the end of a long day slaving in the kitchen. Now that, is customer service. Bravo. I would a 6 star review if I could.More

Passed through Bantry today with a car full of family members. After a quick google we decided on the Snug and were not disappointed. We ordered the Fish Goujons and Chips for the adults and beef and nuggets for the kids. All the “plates” were...wiped clean and that is the ultimate compliment in our Car. Well Done to keeping it open during this time.More

We ate here three times on our recent holiday in West Cork and I cannot say enough about how friendly and helpful the staff were. The menu is very varied and they try to do genuinely interesting things with the fish specials, one evening I...had pan fried turbot in a cider and crab sauce. The crispy duck in an orange glaze was wonderful. The portions are huge. Aside from the lovely and varied menu the main attraction of The Snug is the wonderful and friendly staff who help to create a lovely atmosphere. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.More

I recently had a meal at the Snug in Bantry. Having eaten here many times over the years. Myself and my party were utterly disappointed. The cod Goujons, were awful. Packet frozen. For 18.00euro you would expect fresh fish. This is disappointing as they used...to be beautiful and fresh. The garlic mushrooms were also from a packet and overcooked. Desserts not homemade and cheap tasting. Prices do not reflect the quality. The roasts were fine. Tasty even however the mash was also tasteless and hard on top. Seemed like it was microwaved or re heated. The staff were very nice but the food was disappointing.More
