Eritrea’s troops remain in Tigray, holding up ceasefire execution

The success of the ceasefire struck between Tigray and Ethiopia’s federal government last month hinges on the withdrawal of Eritrean forces. However, one month later, the country’s military is still present in the northern region. They stand accused of human rights violations and kidnapping of Tigray civilians.

The Tigray forces were supposed to disarm their roughly 250,000 fighters within 30 days of signing the ceasefire, which came into effect on 3 November.
