Before we look at which airlines are still flying the Boeing 777-200LR, let's first take a look and see how the aircraft came to be. Designed to bridge the gap between the Boeing 767 and Boeing 747, the Boeing 777 twin-engine long-range airliner flew for the first time on June 12, 1994, before being delivered to launch customer United Airlines on May 15, 1995.

The Boeing 777-200 was followed by the 777-200ER (extended range) and then in 2006 the Boeing 777-200LR (long range). Though still subject to ETOPS regulations at the time, the plane had a longer range than any other commercial airliner. With a range of 8,555 nautical miles, the Boeing 777-200LR was designed for ultra-long routes like connecting Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) with Changi Airport (SIN) in Singapore.

Despite being in service for 16 years, the Boeing 777-200LR is still in service with many of the world's airlines.
