For Anthony Hopkins fans, the 2021 Golden Globes can’t come soon enough. On Sunday, February 28, Hopkins will have a chance to win his first Golden Globe for his role in The Father. Of course, the veteran actor took home the Cecil B. DeMille Award in 2006 in recognition of his decades-long career, but he has never won the top honor for a specific role — not even for The Silence of the Lambs. What gives, Hollywood Foreign Press?
According to Gold Derby, Hopkins is currently the second-place favorite to win the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama, behind only Chadwick Boseman for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. WHAT IS ANTHONY HOPKINS’ THE FATHER ABOUT?
Co-written and directed by Florian Zeller, The Father stars Anthony Hopkins as an aging Welshman who begins to lose his memory. When his daughter Anne (played by fellow nominee Olivia Colman) moves in to help him, Anthony is forced to cope with his loosening grip on reality, while Anne begins to grieve the loss of her father as she once knew him.
THE FATHER RELEASE DATE: WHEN DOES THE FATHER MOVIE COME OUT?
More than one year after it first debuted at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, The Father premieres in select theaters in New York and Los Angeles today, Friday, February 26. The heart-wrenching drama will be expanded to additional theaters around the country on March 12, before hitting on demand platforms a few weeks later.
