  1. Jalen Journey entered the winner's circle for the Grade 3 Frank J. De Francis Memorial Dash at Laurel Park. The 6-year-old ridgling scored the win via disqualification after interference from Wondrwherecraigis compromised Jalen Journey in the stretch. After the race, Feargal Lynch on Jalen Journey claimed foul against Jevian Toledo on Wondrwherecraigis. Laurel stewards disqualified Wondrwherecraigis to second for interference in the stretch, which elevated Jalen Journey to winner of the G3 stakes. (Paulick Report)
  2. PG13, Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) high school sports series, returned for season six last week as scholar-athletes returned to the playing field after two seasons impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. PGCPS partnered with Visionary Media Productions to make PG13 showcase scholar-athletes, coaches, families and school communities in 13 episodes. Each episode portrays multidimensional stories, shot in a cinematic style, in four- to seven-minute story arcs. Season six premiered on Sept. 13. (PGCPS)
  3. Yesterday (Sept. 20), Governor Larry Hogan announced $16.8 million in grants to support bicycle, pedestrian, and trail improvements through 42 projects across Maryland. The package includes $12.4 million in federal funding through the Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP), $1 million through the Recreational Trails Program (RTP), and nearly $3.4 million in state funding through the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT). The grant programs allow the state to support local partners and create new opportunities to expand Maryland’s transportation network. (Maryland.gov)
  4. A delegation of FIFA officials arrived Sunday and embarked on a tour of Baltimore to assess M&T Bank Stadium and the city’s potential to host the 2026 World Cup. Colin Smith, FIFA chief tournaments and events officer, said the organization will assess Baltimore’s accommodations. The delegation will also weigh the city’s track record of hosting other large events, such as marathons, as well as public transit and the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, the potential entry point to Baltimore for teams and fans from across the globe.
