ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — The Roanoke Fire-EMS Department has released new details after a resident lost their home in a fire on Friday evening.

The department said the call came in shortly after 6:30 p.m. on April 12 for a fire in the 2700 block of Huntington Blvd NW. When crews arrived, they discovered thick smoke and heavy flames at the back of the house.

The fire department says heavy winds pushed the fire into the attic and to the second story and roof. However, firefighters were able to bring the fire under control.

During the investigation, fire officials determined the blaze ignited by accident. It was also revealed that the fire caused about $167,000 in damages.
