Magical and small venue to see indies and artistic films rather than blockbusters. Old school charm. Affordable. Delicious popcorn. A fun local experience. Very great service.

Great experience. Good movies. Small but quaint theater. Decent seats. Good image and audio quality. The guys working there are pretty good but sometimes seem a little bored and disinterested. Usually a good deal for 2 on Groupon. They have bottled water, cans of soda (no fountain) and bottomless popcorn in regular kitchen type plastic and metal bowls (good for environment as they are reusable). Check movie times often as they change daily even for the same movies.

Magic Lantern is in a good area, lots of good places to eat. Parking can be a little scare.

I finally went to The Magic Lantern, why did I wait so long? For years I've heard reviews about some very good movies, "art films" and I knew they'd never be shown at the local Regal. Wait no more, this theater offers them. It is an older movie venue, not so comfy, but the movies make up for the atmosphere. Just get lost in the story. I saw the Woody Allen film "Magic in the Moonlight". It was a very clever story, one I'd see again. After the movie, a visit to Saranac Public House, located in the same building as the theater, is the perfect place to grab a drink and discuss the movie. Tip: Look for the parking meters on the street to the west of the theater or around the corner to the south. There you'll find 4 hour meters, free parking doesn't start until after 7 PM.

Kooky and takes you way back to some theaters of old. Fun part of town with a shabby-hipster flare. In the Sarnac building (next to a tavern that serves a great hamburger-but no fries).

You get to see mostly art-house type films. The entrance is in the back and the drinks are served with ice in a real glass. The popcorn is served in plastic, reusable bowls :). The seats are old-school and a bit uncomfortable, but kind of nostalgic. Small and cosy.

I loved it except for a major drawback: we had a distinct impression that we were taking the two guys (on their laptops) away from much more important activities when we arrived. They were suitably dressed to fit the hipster vibe but really had a hard time being pleased that customers actually showed up. These guys really took away from a visit (where we actually brought two friends to introduce them to the fun place..oops, that didn't work well) to cool Spokane place.

This hip little twin-screen cinema is nearly the only place in town to see uncommon movies. Theaters are small but very clean and comfortable, with great refreshments available. Sound is good, so it feels like a larger theater.

Out-of-towners may find it hard to locate, however, as it's tucked behind restaurants and shops, up a few steps in the back of the Saranac Building. It's worth the search.

boutique theater. Old school style, small screens and seating areas. Great location with several dining choices nearby and a couple within steps. Nice for date night! Try to go to the larger of the two small theaters. The small one can be a bit tight and other than the back few rows, it is a bit hard to watch so close. Don't come expecting the food/snack items that they list in their website. In the years I've gone there, they almost never have them. No chai, no candy, no cookies, etc. The staff? Well I think that the nerdy skinny guy owns it or he just manages it, don't know. He is a bit anal, so be prepared. The other goatee dude (might not still have one) is friendly and kicked back. They have popcorn, but it isn't very flavorful.

There are several little theatres with great movies showing. There were about 15 chairs in our theatre when we went to see "The Quartet". We we there with three other people. All you can eat popcorn and drinks in a can. The cost is a fraction of going to a Franchise Theatre. You can actually rent one of the theatres and bring in wine if you want a private party.

This is Spokane's best movie theater - intimate theaters, great films that you don't see in the big movie theaters, and popcorn in metal bowls! And, for those above 21, there is beer and wine for sale. Finally, before or after the movie, you have so many great restaurant/bar choices in the neighborhood.

Love seeing movies here! They play many movies not seen at other theatres in our town. The popcorn in a metal bowl, and drinks in reusable glasses are the icing on the cake!

The Lantern is where you will find the great small films that are ignored by the AMCs of the world. A couple of weeks ago we went there to see RBG the great bio documentary about Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg. The two theaters are quite small, informal and intimate. Popcorn is served up in stainless steel bowls. We had boxed leftovers from our dinner next door and they were kind enough to let us borrow some space in their beverage cooler for our box until we retrieved it after our movie. For an eclectic and fun movie experience it cant be beat. So we check out what's playing at the Lantern on a regular basis.
