Update: Police identify victim, announce arrest in deadly northwest Roanoke shooting

Police say suspect and victims are related

ROANOKE, Va.Update, Feb. 23, 9:40 a.m.:
Victims have been identified and one man is under arrest after a deadly shooting Friday in Northwest Roanoke.

Roanoke police have identified the victim who died as Mithiang Lwat, 55, of Roanoke.

They say the person who was injured is Bol Ashwil, 24, of Roanoke. They were transported by Roanoke Fire-EMS to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

Roanoke Police have arrested Arob Ashwil, 27, of Roanoke and charged him with 2nd degree murder. Police said the people involved in the shooting were related to one another.

The investigation is ongoing. 

Original, Feb. 22, 5:09 p.m.: 
One person is dead and another is hurt after a shooting in Northwest Roanoke this afternoon, according to the Roanoke Police Department.

Police do not believe there is any immediate danger to the community concerning this incident.

Around 5 p.m., dozens of police cars were at the scene in the 700 block of Fairview Road NW, just off of Salem Turnpike NW, near Fairview Elementary School. 

Since then, many officers have left the scene

Officers have Fairview Road NW blocked off.
