'Virgin River' Fans, We Got An Official Season 4 Trailer for You

If you're like us, you're craving all the details you can possibly find about season 4 of the Netflix drama Virgin River.

It's been over a year since the season 3 finale left us on the edge of our seats. As folks may recall, there was so much drama going on between Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack (Martin Henderson), Wes (Steve Bacic)'s threatening twin brother, Vince, and Hope (Annette O'Toole)'s scary car accident. So many cliffhangers and so many mysteries to be solved next season. Well, what's the latest on Virgin River season 4? We've got all the major details gathered below:

When is the season 4 Virgin River release date?

Virgin River season 4 is premiering on Netflix on Wednesday, July 20. The streaming service announced the exciting news on the drama's official Instagram page back in May, alongside seven new photos. Judging from the sneak peek, the pictures seem to feature the Virgin River cast sharing intense moments with each other ...

What will Virgin River season 4 be about?

According to Virgin River's season 4 press release, there is lots in store for our favorite characters. Below, read in full what you can expect to see, per TVLine.

Despite not knowing whether her baby belongs to her deceased husband, Mark or Jack, Mel begins Season Four with a sense of optimism. For years she yearned to be a mother and her dream is one step closer to reality. While Jack is supportive and excited, the question of paternity continues to gnaw at him. Complicating matters is the arrival of a handsome new doctor, who's in the market to start a family of his own. Hope is still healing from her car accident, and the lingering psychological effects of her brain injury will have profound consequences for both her and Doc. Brie, intent on proving the innocence of the man she loves, unexpectedly finds herself in a closer relationship with Mike and one step closer to Calvin’s violent criminal web. Even as Preacher forges a new romantic connection, he can’t help but hold out hope for being reunited with Christopher and Paige.

Based on the events that happened in season 3, we can assume the following cast members will reprise their roles:

  • Alexandra Breckenridge as Mel Monroe

  • Martin Henderson as Jack Sheridan

  • Daniel Gillies as Mark

  • Annette O'Toole as Hope McCrea

  • Tim Matheson as Doc Mullins

  • Colin Lawrence as John "Preacher" Middleton

  • Teryl Rothery as Muriel

  • Sarah Dugdale as Lizzie

  • Grayson Maxwell Gurnsey as Ricky

  • Lauren Hammersley as Charmaine

  • Benjamin Hollingsworth as Dan Brady

  • Zibby Allen as Brie Sheridan

  • Marco Grazzini as Mike

Unfortunately, season 3 included the death of Lilly (Lynda Boyd), which means we may only see the character and actress in season 4 flashback scenes, if there will be any at all.

As for what's going on with Hope (Annette O'Toole), the town gossip will likely play a bigger part in season 4 than she did in season 3. According to what Virgin River showrunner Sue Tenney told Us Weekly in July 2021, Hope only appeared in Zoom calls this season because the actress couldn't film in person in Vancouver amid the coronavirus pandemic. But rest assured, Sue confirmed that Hope will be back.

As for new cast additions, Deadline confirmed that Mark Ghanimé and Kai Bradbury will join season 4 as regulars. Kai will portray a character named Denny Cutler, Doc's long-lost grandson. We see him show up at Virgin River to try to connect with Doc — apparently though, he's holding onto a deep-dark secret. As for Mark, the actor will play Dr. Cameron Hayek, the clinic's new physician who makes "an immediate splash in town" with the ladies.

The season 3 finale sure left us with plenty of questions — Is Hope going to be okay? What's going to happen to Paige (Lexa Doig), Preacher (Colin Lawrence) and Christopher (Chase Petriw) now? Are the babies Jack's? Is Ricky (Grayson Maxwell Gurnsey) going to leave Virgin River? What will become of Brady (Benjamin Hollingsworth)? Is Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley) going to win custody of the twins?

Well, thanks to the official season 4 trailer (which dropped in July), we may have more questions than answers.

Let's break down a bit of what we know, shall we? For starters, it looks like Hope is alright after her accident but she has a long road before getting back to her talkative and busybody self. Thankfully, we see Doc (Tim Matheson) taking care of his wife, meaning the two are currently on good terms — for now.

But Doc may have his own issues to worry about. A handsome new doctor has appeared in town to shake things up (maybe more so for Jack?), and he's discovering the existence of a long-lost grandson. That's a lot to handle, on top of being a caretaker. We'll need to watch and see how this plays out.

Speaking of things playing out, Jack has quite a bit on his plate this season. From the fact that he's about to become a dad to Charmaine's twins to the potential news that he fathered Mel's baby, he's in need of some good old-fashioned fatherhood advice. Unfortunately, his own dad isn't the one he can rely on so easily. As he tells Mel in the trailer, "If I can’t have a relationship with my own father, what kind of dad am I going to be?"

What's more, we will eventually learn who shot Jack in the season 2 finale, though it might take some time. We also might start to see a love triangle develop between Brie (Zibby Allen), Mike (Marco Grazzini) and Brady following the latter's arrest. As for the Charmaine-Jack drama, showrunner Sue Tenney told Entertainment Weekly that they have a "pretty big bombshell" in store for her next season that will "blow everybody away." Hmm, what if the twins aren't Jack's after all? Just throwing that prediction out there ...

But that's not all. Martin himself told TVLine that, believe it or not, Jack's world may just get even more complex thanks to his ex-wife from the past. "Mandy showing up in Virgin River would complicate things even more. It’s possible with this show," he hinted to the outlet.

But the biggest twist comes in the form of a lawsuit not even Mel sees coming in her pregnancy. On top of everything else this season, she discovers her dead husband's mother is suing her for the frozen embryos the couple created before his untimely passing.

But wait, there's more. We'll also find out what's in store for Ricky and Lizzie, who seem to be at a crossroads. "Ricky and Lizzie are growing and maturing at different rates, but we hope they’ll get to the same place at a certain point. And that’s the best way to describe that relationship — it’s the timing thing we go through," Sue told TVLine.

Long story short, we have a lot of drama to look forward to when season 4 comes out, so prepare yourselves accordingly.

"We were supposed to start [filming season five] in March, but it was pushed so … I don't know. I don't know man. I'm hoping that maybe we'll start in the summer," she reportedly explained. "It would be nice to film in Vancouver in the summer rather than the winter."
