SRTF SA2 Hero Story Eggman has something to say

The now-famous frame of Eggman commencing his announcement.

Eggman's Announcement (alternatively I've Come to Make an Announcement, Eggman Pisses on the Moon or Shadow the Hedgehog is a Bitch-Ass Motherfucker) is a running gag-turned-copypasta originating from Doctor Eggman's profane single-take rant on Shadow the Hedgehog that he aired live on the social media platform Twitter.com to all of planet Earth. The rant was about Shadow having sexual intercourse with Eggman's wife Martha, and thus cuckolding him. The speech was included as part of the SnapCube's Real-Time Fandub episode "Sonic Adventure 2 (Dark Story + Final Story)", and is by far the most quoted moment among fans of Sonic the Hedgehog, fans of SnapCube and/or ClownHouse, and non-fans alike. It cemented the show's legacy in fandom culture, in addition to making a significant dent in Doctor Eggman's legacy as a character.

I've come to make an announcement: Shadow the Hedgehog's a bitch-ass motherfucker, he pissed on my fucking wife. That's right, he took his hedgehog-fuckin' quilly dick out and he pissed on my fucking wife, and he said his dick was "THIS BIG," and I said "that's disgusting," so I'm making a callout post on my Twitter.com: Shadow the Hedgehog, you've got a small dick. It's the size of this walnut except WAY smaller. And guess what? Here's what my dong looks like.

[Explosion sounds] That's right, baby. All points, no quills, no pillows — look at that, it looks like two balls and a bong. He fucked my wife, so guess what, I'm gonna fuck the Earth. That's right, this is what you get: MY SUPER LASER PISS!! Except I'm not gonna piss on the Earth, I'm gonna go higher; I'M PISSING ON THE MOON! How do you like that, Obama?! I PISSED ON THE MOON, YOU IDIOT!

You have twenty-three hours before the piss D R O P L E T S hit the fucking Earth, now get outta my fucking sight, before I piss on you too!

Origins: Dark Story

Eggman’s_Announcement_(Original_Clip)

Eggman’s Announcement (Original Clip)

In the original rendition of Sonic Adventure 2, there is a cutscene where Dr. Eggman takes over every television screen on Earth to deliver his fiendish message of world domination, and shoots the Moon with a space laser powered by the Chaos Emeralds as a display of threatening power. The scene (among a few others) appears in both the Hero storyline and the Dark storyline, providing the SnapCube cast two takes to get lines for it (which normally only happens for technical reasons). On his first take, Eggman (played by Alfred Coleman) has a vendetta against a little girl observing his message, "the news", Victoria's Secret, BestBuy, and a walnut-shaped planet which he carves into the shape of his face via explosion (the Space Colony ARK). He later blasts the Moon because it didn't contain any cheese like he wanted.

On the second take during the Dark storyline, after Shadow (played by Ryan Mitchum) admits to peeing on Eggman's wife, Eggman's speech instead calls out Shadow on a live Twitter.com stream, describing his cuckolding in gruesome detail and showing off his penis (once again, the Space Colony ARK) to compete with Shadow's. He then blasts the Moon but with his penis instead.

In "The First Night (SA2)", we find out that Shadow's admission to cheating with Eggman's wife was enough to make the cast burst into laughter, and Ryan even called for a laugh break before Eggman's message began. What followed was one glorious long take of Eggman ranting while the whole cast couldn't help but laugh to the point of crying and coughing. Penny, in stitches, paused the scene 24 minutes into recording the Dark storyline and told the cast to stop recording in order to make sure it isn't lost to technical difficulties. Everyone's collective opinion was that the buildup of the so-called "Piss Saga" was seamless.

Pre-meditated teaser: Civil War

In "The First Night (SA2)" it's revealed that the "Dark Story + Final Story" episode was recorded on March 29, 2018. During the four-month gap while the episode was being edited, Ryan teased the joke during the second anniversary episode of Real-Time Fandub, "Captain America: Civil War", as the character of Bucky Barnes. Bucky tells Hawkeye that he would be peeing on the Moon, to which Hawkeye replies that he would beat him to it first.

The piss saga goes viral

The Dark Story episode aired on July 18, 2018 and became the third SnapCube video to cross 10,000 views the following month. On December 13, 2018, the scene was posted on Twitter by user @overlordxord without context, with the caption "I'm not gonna lie. This is an ACTUAL SCENE from Gumball", as a satirical jab at another tweet by @CNConfessions (now suspended). [1][2] This boosted the viewership of both Sonic Adventure 2 dubs, helping Dark Story cross the 100,000 views milestone for the first time on SnapCube by Christmas.[3]

Eggman's Announcement (Isolated Studio Vocals)

An unedited version of Alfred's isolated audio was posted to celebrate the 1 million views milestone.

In March 2019, it broke records again by hitting one million views, which Penny celebrated by uploading the raw audio for only the speech without the laughter, so any meme creators can manipulate it to their will.[4] This was a blessing to creators web-wide, leading to everything from vocoded versions of the speech and "but-edits" (a phenomenon of Replacement Remixes), to fan-produced animations and mutations into other media, to song mashups and even fandubs in other languages. It cannot be understated that the gag singlehandedly allowed for the SnapCube channel to grow an audience beyond expectations that was prepared for the next episodes of the show, leading up to "Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)". SnapCube's Real-Time Fandub had officially passed into the mainstream by this point.

In the middle of September 2021, the episode became the second video in SnapCube and Real-Time Fandub history to cross ten million views, second only to the Sonic '06 episode.

Drawbacks to virality: Freebooting and harassment

The clip had made it into masses of Twitter and Instagram memes (and compilations of those very posts on YouTube), and with this virality a discussion launched regarding freebooting, since many of these accounts (notably from the Twitter account @CursedVideos, which is now suspended) posted the clip without any credit or permission of Penny or the cast. She spoke about this topic and politely asked for the people doing so to provide credit to the original creator, citing the Eggman's Announcement clip as the reason she brought this up.

Mike's come to make an announcement…

The video Mike Pollock posted to YouTube addressing the fans about the copypasta.

At the height of its popularity, fans demanded that an "official" variation of the copypasta be narrated by the character's official English voice actor Mike Pollock. SnapCube's videos had gotten his attention at least as far back as May 2019, but he kept a distance from them like with any fan-produced works online, since "watching more would open up a legal can of worms".[5] To the fans' disillusion, neither he nor SEGA allow the solicitation of custom in-character voice lines from fans, since Eggman's character is considered to be family-friendly in the official game releases, and Mike wouldn't be authorized to provide dialogue from the dubs in the character's voice per SEGA's contract (this has not stopped Dan Green, the English voice of Mephiles the Dark, from giving his own rendition of "SnapCube" Mephiles's opening line for a fan recording). Mike would release a statement in August 2019, making his stance clear on the issue and establishing his boundaries, requesting that his fans don't pester him about it again.[6][7]

(in Eggman's voice) I've come to make an announcement! (in his regular voice) Please don't ask me to fill a character's mouth with profanity. If the folks in charge [SEGA] wouldn't use that kind of language, I'm certainly not gonna do it myself. I'm not just an actor, I'm a kind of character caretaker, and a lot of fans think of me as somehow representing the company. I don't want to cause anyone any trouble, especially myself. Feel free to hear my voice in your head, but let's let the official team members put words into my mouth. Thanks.

Mike Pollock, "Mike's come to make an announcement..."

On St. Patrick's Day, Mike would post a recording on SoundCloud of Dr. Eggman in an Irish accent wishing listeners holiday's greetings. He started off the recording with the words "I've come to make an announcement", which has lead many to believe that it's a nod to the clip of Alfred's Eggman rant.[8]

A noticeable amount of viewers also built expectations that they projected onto the cast and show, that they would maybe mention this now-legendary text from the second episode in future dubs. Ahead of "Sonic Riders", Alfred established that the bit wouldn't pop up in future episodes from him. Such is the nature of the show, as Penny has also clarified that her show would have continuity within episodes and some running gags, but not rely on a large multitude of repeated jokes like its 2016 counterpart.[9]

Here’s what I’m gonna say that I’ve been wanting to say for a while, I will NEVER make the "piss on the moon" joke in any other future dub, it was a one time thing for that dub with the context we were workin' with, it’s never gonna happen again. Stop pushing Penny and me about it.

On April 26, 2022, Alfred Coleman teased his followers with big news and hinted that it was related to Eggman. One prevalent speculation was that this was the announcement of the Shadow the Hedgehog fandub. On April 29, 2022 at 00:00 EST, the announcement would break on Twitter Dot Com about a brand new merchandise release, aptly titled the "EGGDROP" (in all caps). The EGGDROP launch featured 50 items ranging from clothing, mugs, stickers, flags, posters and other accessories. All items were designed by Alfred Coleman, Robby Fregosi and variouvery, and hosted on eggdrop.bigcartel.com starting on April 29, 2022.

It was originally meant to end on May 29, 2022, but the site received so many orders in its first twelve hours that payment processing issues started to arise between PayPal and Big Cartel, and since Alfred was the one hosting the store independently, he had to temporarily shut it down for maintenance on noon launch day. It was promised that the deadline would be extended if the store's reopening was delayed for more than one day. A relaunch came about on June 29, 2022, with new added items and a longer purchase window, extended to September 1, 2022.[10]

A second drop complete with items from the first drop and new additions was opened on November 29, 2022 for the winter season.[11]

Piss Become Canon: IDW

Sonic IDW I've come to make an announcement

Rough the Skunk (a character exclusive to the IDW comics) is depicted vandalizing a wall filled with graffiti, on which the words "MAKE AN ANNOUNCEMENT" can be made out behind the text "Rouge and Tumble".

Things took an unexpected turn when three cover artworks were released in May 2022 for the IDW-published Sonic the Hedgehog Annual. Cover B, illustrated by Reggie Graham, included many Easter eggs and famously featured the line "MAKE AN ANNOUNCEMENT" written in a wall of graffiti that Rough the Skunk is vandalizing over. Its release on Twitter caught fans off-guard since it was the first time that the franchise recognized Eggman's Announcement in any official capacity (making the announcement canon in the IDW continuity). The moment also makes it the first time in Real-Time Fandub history where an element of the show affected the canon of the original property.

The Gamer Piss, It Came Back: Shadow the Hedgehog

SRTF Until Dawn Part 2 Dan Cliff brightened "Dan Cliff... Amazing." This section needs to be expanded. Help out by editing!

"Shadow the Hedgehog", the show's most anticipated episode, brings back this bit as an answer to fans who gained a reputation for overplaying the joke in fandom circles. The Space Colony ARK makes a triumphant return, and then promptly urinates on the White House (twice) sending shockwaves throughout Westopolis. Eggman's penis-shaped ship also played a role in the defeat of the Devil and his Big Fucking Thing.

Callbacks

Within SnapCube's Real-Time Fandub

  • "Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)": The final shot of the episode is a view of the full moon, and Alfred uses the opportunity to tease the Announcement bit by yelling "I'M PI—", after which the rest of the cast breaks into laughter and the credits roll.
  • "Sonic Riders": Omochao is briefly seen reporting what had just happened at the EX World Grand Prix, and accidentally reads from a script that contained Eggman's Rant. He quickly backtracks, however the cast bursts into wheezing and laughter.
  • Shadow the Hedgehog”: A cutscene plays, showing the Space Colony ARK shooting and destroying the White House, during which Alfred says, “Hey, reference!” The rest of the cast proceeds to laugh about the tease. Later, during the cutscene of Black Doom's Black Comet getting obliterated by the ARK, Alfred plays the scene as Eggman unleashing his "super-duper laser... piss" on the comet. Afterwards, Eggman orders everyone to never ask him to reference his announcement ever again, only for the other characters to harass him into making another reference.
  • "Subspace Dubbed Over": During the scene with Ganondorf and Bowser on their flying fortress, Alfred says "I've come to make an announcement" and later says he's pissing on only to be interrupted by the appearance of the heroes.

Related ClownHouse media

  • "Ryan and Alfred Go To IKEA": In a video on Ryan's channel, he and Amanda (his girlfriend at the time) go to IKEA with Alfred. 13 minutes in, we see a print on the wall saying "Shoot for the Moon", as the camera pans to Alfred shaking his head and staring at it, alluding to the joke.[12]
  • "Sweet Little Punch to the Gut | Sonic Riders | PART 1": During Penny and Joy Charlotte's playthrough of Sonic Riders, Eggman appears to announce the EX World Grand Prix in a similar setting to the now-legendary scene. Penny says "I've come to make an announcement..." in Eggman's voice and breaks into laughter when he shows up. She does this to "feed the meme".[13]

Trivia

  • The community-contributed captions on the original upload of "Sonic Adventure 2 (Dark Story + Final Story)" incorrectly transcribed Eggman's line "All points, no quills, no pillows" as "Tall points, no quills, no pillows". This is likely a mishearing of the original line. This was fixed in the isolated release.
  • Eggman's rant inspired the name of /r/MoonPissing, the meme-focused sibling of the Sonic the Hedgehog subreddit. Users often post about the rant, but the community is based on general Sonic memes.

Notes

  • Most clips of the rant aren't in high quality or in the correct aspect ratio, therefore the clip that is featured on this page isn't the most popular one but rather the cleanest version.
