Work on Pennsylvania Ave, Where to Live?

Greetings! Besides choosing where to live between LA and DC, I am also trying to find out which area around DC is the best to live. I prefer to be near a metro line and my monthly housing budget will be approximately $1000 - $1500. The potential job is near the Old Post Office Bldg on Penn Ave. Safety and convenience are important. Thanks for your suggestions!

Best and $1500 don't go together. Try looking near stops along the Orange Line in Northern Virginia.

There are many good places to live around DC. And many of them are not too far from a Metro station. What would make one of them "best" for you? I haven't a clue.

Thanks for the quick replies! My ideal situation is to be near a rail line in a neighborhood that offers good restaurants, shopping, social scene, and safety. It would be just me so I'm not looking for family-oriented amenities. Nearby outdoor activities (biking, running) would also be awesome. Thanks again.

I don't know about neighborhoods actually in DC, but if you wanted to go the Northern Virginia route I'd suggest looking into Alexandria (on the blue line) or Arlington (orange line). In particular the neighborhoods around Clarendon and Ballston would seem to fit your listed criteria.

(There are probably more, but those are the areas I'm most familiar with.)

Hi thanks for the suggestions...I'll look into those. I should have said "Greater DC" because any of the surrounding communities would work as long as they are on a rail route.
