The University of North Texas at Dallas (UNT Dallas) has achieved the highest rankings in two key categories of the 2022 Texas Public University Report Card, an annual statewide review conducted by educational non-profit ScholarShot.

UNT Dallas earned a score of 90 (out of 100) in the category of Student Outcomes and 100 in the category of Community Supports. Of the 14 universities included in the recently-released review, no other institution in the state scored higher in those two categories, while several tied. Six other universities' grades were not made public by ScholarShot.

The Student Outcomes category uses measures from the U.S. Department of Education, including cost of attendance, student loan debt and post-graduation salary. Community Supports encompasses summer class offerings, mentorship opportunities and programs to support first-generation low-income (FGLI) students academically and socially.

In the overall rankings, which include three additional categories, the University of North Texas at Dallas scored second highest of the five DFW region universities in the review, with an 85 (B grade).

A hallmark of UNT Dallas that distinguishes the university from others is the “Trailblazer Elite” (TBE) program focused on helping first-generation students successfully navigate through college with strong support systems. Through mentoring, tailored programming and teambuilding, an ELITE scholar will receive the skills needed to be successful from admission to graduation.

“We appreciate this annual report and encourage all other Texas universities to participate. UNT Dallas excels at serving first generation students and propelling our graduates to upward economic mobility. Most leave with no or modest amounts of debt,” said UNT Dallas President Bob Mong.

The Report Card grades public universities on how well they engage FGLI students. The Report Card was created to better inform students about college selection and success, as well as encourage Texas public universities to improve their practices to better support FGLI students.

ScholarShot provides up to $6,000 for FGLI students to attend colleges such as UNT Dallas, helps them navigate higher education and tracks them through successful employment following graduation.
