Former Fox exec Peter Chernin has opted to leave Twitter‘s board of directors, the company disclosed today in an SEC filing. His term will expire at the company’s annual meeting this year. Chernin and fellow board member Peter Currie of Currie Capital asked to not be renominated.
Chernin said in a tweet (of course) that he was “Privileged to have served on Twitter board for 3+ years” and offered “Respect and support” for CEO Jack Dorsey. “Friendships and Twitter success will continue,” he added.
Twitter’s Executive Chairman Omid Kordestani also tweeted that the “entire Board is working to bring greater diversity to our ranks. Watch this space.”
Twitter has long been dinged for its lack of diversity. At the end of 2013 it named its first female director, former Pearson CEO Marjorie Scardino. Kordestani, a former Google exec who was born in Iran, joined in 2015.
The company announced that PepsiCo CFO Hugh Johnston and Martha Lane Fox, founder of karaoke company Lucky Voice, were appointed to the board April 6.
Chernin, who’s CEO of Chernin Entertainment and The Chernin Group, chaired Twitter’s Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee, and last year left its Compensation Committee.
