I would’ve loved the album more if Turn Off The Lights was in it instead of it being a unreleased 😭

It's kinda a strange bag, honestly. Not that it's bad by any means (the album is pretty good imo), but has had some issues.

The first thing is the breakup. Ryan Ross and Jon Walker leaving sorta strained some fans and their opinions on the band. Not saying Ryan Ross had full control over the music, because he did not, but he carried the musical production and since he was gone, the direction was kinda unexpected.

The second thing is Brendon and Spencer being somewhat "changed" by the event. They definitely had their inspiration, with V&V being a mix of the first two albums, but it didn't do as well because some found the album quirky and different from the rest despite its influences. Subjection also kinda stands in the way of opinions on the sound.

Lastly, the band's popularity. IWSNT was their biggest hit but since then, they weren't that "popular" and thus the album didn't do amazingly well. There were some people (like me lol) who got into the album based on Ready to Go being in the end credits of The Smurfs, but again it didn't really get popular. Even with active fans of their music, it's just kind of up to opinion rather than quality because the first and second albums were so intricate and unique where the third was just... lackluster compared to the first two. Not bad, just a varying energy compared to the first two.

This is probably the best answer to this question honestly. This is more subjective, but I think another thing holding it back is the track list. I love the songs, but I think if the bsides were on the album, it'd help a bit more. That's going from 10 tracks to 16 (that's if Oh Glory got refined from being a demo and blah blah blah). I think Vices is just... Too short.

I love Vices & Virtues the most out of their albums... The only thing that rivals it is the "Live in Denver" performance.

Even though I said Vices & Virtues is "too short" with 10 songs, it's funny because Fever feels much longer by comparison... But only has 11 songs (13 if you can't interlude/intermission). Just thought that was interesting

I agree about Fever. It feels like the longest shortest album, goes by so fast.

I think it’s pretty popular, at least in the fandom it is. Mona Lisa is great but there’s plenty of great other songs as well

I think more than anything it came out:

  1. After the hype from Fever died down

  2. After the band split in half

  3. Before their shift to a more mainstream sound

It’s really just forgotten about due to the timing and the lack of a huge hit like I Write Sins or Nine in the Afternoon

For me, nobody sleeps on Vices like Vices is fighting with Pretty Odd for the Title of the best Panic Album

Sounds like a fall out boy title

from talking to other fans my age it’s cuz ryan and jon aren’t on it (except for witches obviously)

I think it’s mostly because Pretty Odd flopped and then the split and a lengthy period of time before it came out, the fan base had dwindled but for the fans that stayed they loved it and they picked up new fans with the great stage shows. It ranks in my top 4. I think it’s a fantastic album and I love the overture and the videos! It was Brendon & Spencer’s time to figure out their new direction and they did a great job.

With or Without the Bonus Tracks it's still my favorite album. I adore almost every song on there

my favourite album, banger after banger

I love all of the bonus tracks more than some of the standard tracks. Like Kaleidoscope Eyes, Bittersweet, etc. But one of my favorite Panic! songs is Nearly Witches!

I like Vices but imo Mona Lisa is by far the best track on the album

Without explaining my life history, I have only recently listened to the entire V&V album. I am legit MAD at myself for sleeping on this album for so long because it’s SO good. I listen to the whole thing almost every day now.

honestly it’s like my favourite album at the moment. i really love it

People love this album. It’s regularly rated as a fan fave. It’s to older fans as doab is to newer fans.

I would love the album so much more if the unreleased songs were on it. Those songs are the best ones out of the entire album in my opinion

I think they really lost out by not adding all the now unreleased tracks such as Kaleidoscope Eyes, Bittersweet, and Turn Off The Lights, which all seem to be really loved by the majority of fans from what I can see. If they wanted to stick to the usual 12-13 songs, they definitely could’ve swapped out songs like Memories or Trade Mistakes (not personally a big fan of those 2)
