The Lloyd Street Synagogue, now known as the Jewish Museum of Maryland, was Maryland's first synagogue opened in 1845. Not surprisingly, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Three congregations (including one Lithuanian Catholic) worshipped there between its founding and 1960 when so much change was coming to the city. The Jewish Historical Society of Maryland, the predecessor to the museum, began needed repairs and restorations enabling the arts, educational, and historical functions we see today to thrive. Today, we were giving an out of town visitor a brief tour of Baltimore and passed by the museum, not expecting to enter because of a current capital project.  Happily, we met a member of staff who happened to see us walking around and invited us to have a glimpse inside. He explained that the synagogue is open for services on Saturday. They do tours on Sunday early. It is the museum section, including the original sanctuary, that is closed for renovation. The stately simplicity of the main sanctuary was as peaceful as it was impressive. We definitely plan to return when renovations are complete.

Many friends have enjoyed the exhibits and resources of the Maryland Center for History and Culture over the years, but this was my first visit to the museum. I was impressed at the well organized displays, ample free parking, friendly reception desk, availability of lockers for personal items, the classic front courtyard, and quality of plaques and descriptions of all display items. One always expects to learn something new at a museum, but today I was overwhelmed to learn after all these years that the whole exhibition dedicated to Jim Henson (of Muppet fame) was a study of the history of performing and creative arts and media that developed in Maryland and the DC suburbs. The collection of early notes and sketches, as well as samples of video spanning over 40 years, was impressive. We also had time to view the Maryland Civil Rights history exhibition, and I was happy to find a replica of the Baltimore Afro-American Newspaper office welcoming visitor right at the start. The exhibit addressed the famous, like Thurgood Marshall and the foot soldiers in Maryland, from the state level to regional stories such as the activities on the Eastern Shore (e.g., Cambridge and Ocean City). The exhibit covered at least two centuries from the Civil War up to the Baltimore protests of 2015 and through to today, showing that much work remains to be done. There was much more to see, so now I will plan a follow-up visit.

If you visit Baltimore, you must make a stop in Hampden. This is quintesscential Baltimore Hon. There are a host of vintage shops and privately owned restaurants that make up this melting pot.

This was our first time trying axe throwing, and we had a great time. We were celebrating our son’s birthday. We will be doing this again. Thanks again

Conveniently located in front of the ballpark. Taking the MARC to Union Station is one of the best options for travel between Baltimore and DC

Having just finished a book discussing the original frigate, USS Constellation, I was actually surprised to discover that the overall design and layout was not much different. The whole Captain’s quarters occupying one end of the ship is the same for both ships. The surgeon area was the same on both ships and called the cockpit on the original frigate. Back then, there were many amputations and I had a little trouble visualizing attempting this in the cribs used for the wounded.

Great information on Black/African American History from beginning to present times, captures the middle passage to modern day African American President Barack Obama.

We are in our sixties and are so glad we paid a little more and sat in the limited seating just above the standing area. Great view of both the crowd and the stage, attentive service and both space and a seat to rest on. If you are into the act(s) playing I think it would still be a long crowded demanding night on your feet. It warmed up quite a bit and it wasn't that warm outside, so I hope they add some air in the summer. We saw Twiddle who I was a little dissapointed by but that had nothing to do with the venue. Eat before you go or wait for after , they have some things but nothing that I would suggest.

Located in the heart of Downtown Baltimore, the Reginald F. Lewis Museum is a top-shelf experience depicting the history and culture of African American Marylanders. The museums permanent collections display the soul of this culture through artifacts, documentation, photography and art. My exploration though the collections was enlightening but I was brought to my knees with my interpretation of the slavery documentation which outlined heart-wrenching stories of their plight........we are so lucky.

I was hoping to write something earth shattering but after reading everyone else’s reviews, all my thoughts have already been noted.

I just wanted to reiterate that the best marketing is to experiemce the adventure yourself, whether a day sail, overnighter, or several days at a time. Yes, theres a good chance youll experience motoring, but even so, still great times.

The crew and captains are full of knowledge and a few stories thrown in. All are welcome who come aboard. If youre lucky enough to be onboard for meals, you wont be let down!

Such a well oiled high performance team, and highly revered by other ships! She’s a living piece of history, with the sharpest look amd style on the water!

Ive taken two five day trips and more expected to join!

Unexpected wonderful experience with history and art at this museum. Arranged 1:00 pm docent led tour. Toured rooms filled with art, books and history, giving one an experience of the life of the nation's elite wealthy. (Garrets of the B&O railroad). The absolute highlight for me was the Leon Bakst designed theater. (look forward to attending a performance there in the future). There is an extensive Asian art collection with a wide array of netsuke and even a opium be. There is a small gift shop and a self-guided garden tour. Our original reason for the visit was the House Plant exhibit which I found quite a disappointment. The museum could benefit from some Hopkins investment in lighting instead of a short beam from a flashlight of the docent.

Beautiful historical neighborhood in Baltimore. The roads are pathed in bricks. Park in honor of Peabody, plus the library and university. Also, Washington Monument.

Today's visit to the Senator Theatre was planned to appreciate its movie and theater history expressed in sidewalk art. Sections are engraved and painted to depict movies like Wizard of Oz and Gone with the Wind that date from around the 1939, the founding date of this Art Deco masterpiece of a theater There are also panels for Baltimore classics like Hairspray and Diner There is a segment dedicated to Bruce Crockett, the originator of the sidewalk art. There is a special block commemorating the 1991 world premier of He Said, She Said. We enjoyed this trip down memory lane (or sidewalk).

We like libraries and had misread the availability of a tour when we went so we there thrilled that a tour was about to start. There were six or seven of us and the enthusiastic guide (Ben Hayaim?) was wonderful with both attitude and knowledge. It is delightfully restored and maintained and has some neat sections and the best part of the tour was the endless stacks that are not normally available to the public. If you haven't the time or are less interested in tours, still worth popping into the front lobby and having a look around. And lots of great places to sit and read a book of the shelf, do some planning for your travel or just chill.

The Meyerhoff is a fantastic venue for music with incredible acoustics and excellent sight lines. The BSO and a 6 man band collaborated for the evening on Revolution: The Music Of The Beatles to a pretty full house. The music the Beatles brought to the world may never be surpassed in brilliance and the show gave you a 1st hand glimpse of their genius with sounds of their studio experimentation. The evening highlight might have been the magnificent rendition of Eleanor Rigby. After hearing that I was surprised, they didn't have the masterful A Day In The Life in the set list.
